WHO'S BEEN F@#$ING WITH THE OREOS

After a disappointing few seasons where the once upon atime Team Magnifico aka NTU Rugby Team failed to finish with a gold medal in the highly acclaimed Inter varsity championships, things are starting to look bright again for the Boonlay based team.

Anyone who has been down to St Andrew's School over the weekend will note with interest that NTU looks a tad different from usual. In fact, this time round, they brought the whooping and their hapless rivals brought the asses (except of course for the polynesian malaysians).

What was it that inspired such a turn of fortunes for the fallen giants, one may ask. Perhaps upon closer scrutiny, one might recognise the flamboyance, arrogance, and of coz the trademark child bearing hips of the very one who led the NUS Clementi pretenders on their bid to secure gold, silver and bronze in the IVP. The person in question is of course Casanova Xu Ren Han. Blessed with rock star good looks, he could have lived life on the fast lane and rubbed shoulders with Wu Bai and Mayday in the Taiwanese rock and roll scene. However, he chose to embrace rugby as we quote him, "I want to be with the boys, to be in them, be one of them, and to penetrate them"

When quizzed on why he chose to pull on the black jersey and turn out for his one time bitter rivals, he replied coolly "Before, I saw no reason as to why I should ever turn out for NTU. I mean, there's nothing in common between me and them. However, I found the common link last year. Believe it or not, it is their Bronze medal in the Tri Unis that prompted me to play for them."

While the skills of Rockstar Xu is definitely instrumental in finetuning the raw speed of Headless Chicken Sidney, the editors firmly believe that the team's revival should be attributed to that of another exotic player in the team, less pussy than the one from Canada.

Going by the screen name of Chathura Withanage, one can safely say that this guy will never excite the countless talent scouts of Bollywood scattered around Little India. Despite his shortcomings, the editors believe that it is his raw power and strength that lifted the team to their best display in years. Yet how is it that for such a talent, precious little is known about him.

For a guy affectionately referred to as Oreo by loving teammates, the editors have unearthed some shocking links to him, and another popular international personality in the 90s, Kamala. As such, we believe that the basis of Chathu's raw strength and agility comes from his years as a professional wrestler.

We are shocked to learn of the resemblence that these 2 heroes share, perhaps we should let you fans decide for yourselves on this one.

Whether they are one and the same, one thing is for sure, those nips sure look like oreos.

Chathu's roommate in the ex rugby fort Hall 1, Babyface Assassin Yik has reportedly been buying loads of milk off the shelves of NTUC. When asked about his odd behaviour, he quipped "You dont know what you are missing out. You twist off the black cover, lick the cream off and dunk the whole thing in milk, and pop it in your mouth. I can eat those oreos all night long"

The University Teknologi Mara (UiTM in short) sports fiesta is an event held by UiTM (Shah Alam) to bring together sportsmen from all over the region, namely Brunei, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia, to celebrate sporting excellence. The 5 day long event had a wide variety of sports which included Sepak Takraw, Rugby 7s, Bowling, Badminton, and Futsal.

NTU rugby team was one of two Singapore varsity teams that were invited to participate in this sports fiesta in Malaysia, the other team being Singapore Institute of Management.
Some may think the term ‘fiesta’ meant that the tournament was merely an exhibition one, but in actual fact, it was as competitive as it could be. Many of the various universities from Malaysia boasted National age group players, while some other universities had the backing of experienced players doing their post graduate studies. The NTU team, for one, took this tournament very seriously, as we looked to prep our team for the upcoming SUNIG 7s (Singapore University Games) in September.

Team NTU kicked off the tournament with a convincing 17-5 victory over Polytechnic Shah Alam, with 3 different players (Qing Yao, Fadzil and Aidil) scoring tries to open their accounts in the competition. However, it was not to be smooth sailing for the boys from Boon Lay, as we suffered 2 consecutive defeats, and lost our inspirational captain, Ang Tze Shien. One thing to note was that the 2-3 days before the trip were filled with bad news, as players had to withdraw from the trip due to personal reasons. The most significant loss was vice-captain cum star player Sidney Kumar, who broke his nose while playing for his club. Therefore with the injury of Tze Shien (better known as Tze to the team), the team was effectively down to 10 men, when 14 players a team were a norm.

Whatever the team may have lacked in numbers, they certainly made up for it with heart. Pure determination, and the desire to go for one more yard, one more point. One incident pretty much summed up the spirit of the team: When Tze laid down on the field in pain, clutching his torn knee ligaments, the medics with the stretcher were ready to carry him out. That was when Tze exclaimed, ‘No way am I going out on a stretcher! You boys carry on, and go win it!’
What verve, what spirit, displayed by the NTU captain fantastic.

It was obvious that the unfortunate injury suffered by Tze inspired the rest of the team, as we went on to register 3 back to back victories, and in the process, securing our berth in the Plate Finals against the team from Pahang. In the finals, we fought hard, and eventually steamrolled over our opponents 19-0 to secure the Plate Championship, ending the tournament on a high note.

To conclude, 3 words at the end of Tze’s post finals interview summed up the performance of the newly crowned Plate champions—Well done boys.

Nic Koh - Down But Not OUT

A fortnight ago, SCC, Wanderers, SRC and Bucks turned out at Yio Chu Kang Stadium to participate in the round one of the Singapore Pre-Season 15s Tournament. Numerous current and ex Boon Lay Warriors were spotted at the scene. The day was filled with action-packed rugby entertainment, but it was not to be for Nicholas "Mambo" Koh.

After a looong spell in hibernation, Nic decided to come off his couch and represent SRC in the Pre-Season 15s Tournament. Lo and behold, 7 mins into the first half, nic was down, clutching his knee. First examination by the physio stated that its probably a sprain to the knee.

Two weeks after the incident, NTURugbyNews Editors visited Nic and was shocked to find his knee just as swollen.

Nic: Aiyah, Nothing one la! Specialist Appointment in couple of weeks time. Should be okay la!

NTU Rugby hit with string of serious injuries

Lately, a couple of key Boon Lay Warriors were hit with serious injuries, potentially sidelining them for the rest of this year. Of which is NTU Rugby's vice-captain; "Pure pace, no hands" - Sidney Kumar.

Sidney was recruited into NTU Rugby a year ago. He showed promise and was quickly recognised as a key threat to many of the local rivals. After numerous outstanding performances by Sidney, it led his fellow team mates to vote him as NTU's vice-captain.

Unfortunately, during the last 5 mins of the Padang Shield match between SRC and SCC, a collision with another teammate caused a mild concussion and a fractured nose. He is currently at home, recovering from a "nose-straightener" surgery. Sidney has requested to pull out of the UiTM 7s and concentrate on recovering well and returning to his modeling career asap.

NTU Rugby is proud to be sending a squad of 13 up to Selangor to take part in the annual Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) International Sports Fiesta 2008 from the 24th to 28th July.

Training hard under the newly appointed Head Coach (Gene), the traveling squad which comprises of incoming players and the "older" birds hopes to get off to a good start in view of SUNIG (Singapore University Games) in September.

Gene Tong appotined as Head Coach

In the pre-season transfer news, NTU Rugby has reappointed Gene Tong as head coach for acad yr 2008-2009.

Gene was the coach of NTU Rugby during the 2005-2006 season when they lost out to archrivals NUS by two tries.

Craving to get rid of the bitter after-taste, Gene is back with a vengeance and is eager to rebuild the confidence and structure of the team after a disappointing Tri-University Competition earlier this year.

Gene: I was disappionted in the manner we lost to NUS in 2006. We lost it due to the lack of fitness. This year, you can expect a different NTU side. I have set high standards and goals for the team and will work closely with the players to achieve it.

To win the Tri-University Competition is no easy feat, but with conviction, determination and discepline from each and everyone of them, I'm sure we can do it!

Tri-University Round 1 Match 03 - NUS vs NTU

Better late than never, NTU Rugby News previews the final match of the first round of the revised Tri-University Tournament. Match reports on the first two matches will be posted on this site soon. More importantly, the entire rugby community shall turn its attention to the fixture this coming monday where reigning champions for the Tri-varsity competition- National University of Singapore will take on their arch rivals - Nanyang Technological University at home.

Riding high from the narrow victory against Singapore Management University last weekend, NUS will look to seize the top spot on the table with a win over NTU this coming week. Records showed that the Clementi boys have a statistical advantage over their rivals, with them winning 2 out of 2 matches played in 2 years.

While news from the far west, after the heartbreaking loss to SMU in a match which the Boon Lay Warriors dominated, NTU has the chance to level things up and take their campaign further into the decisive second round. Rumours has it that the NTU boys were busy preparing for the upcoming match up. They were seen reporting back at Nanyang Avenue for training on the 3rd day of the lunar new year. Over a phone interview with the determined and passionate NTU captain, Tze "We have to be confident, truly believe that we are the best team in this tournament, and we will definitely win it"

With home ground advantage, pundits have named NUS the slight favourites for the game but many believe that with nothing to lose for NTU, the boys from the west are hungrier for a win and they may just steal this one from NUS.

Match Reports on Friendlies

One hell of a hectic schedule for NTU Rugby which saw the Boon Lay Warriors played a total of three friendly matches in 10 days pretty much sums up the determination and commitment the western boys are willing to lay on the line.

Game 1 vs St Andrew's Old Boys (5th Jan)
Taking on SAOBA in the first 15-a-side game of the season at their own turf was by all means never an easy feat. With positivity and optimism in mind, NTU Rugby took to the field at St Andrew's Junior College fielding a team mixed with youth and experience. Flanker Emo-boy Nicholas Koh, Vice Captain/Center Sidney Kumar and Lock - The New Dancing Indian Sathish were some of the new signings who were given the chance by Coach Dinosaur Cheng to debut for NTU. Spectators were almost treated to a past vs present game as the SAOBA side consists of several former NTU greats such as Cliff Yap, Tan Lian Teck, Aaron Kong and Ng Chee Keong.

Though the match was played under heavy rain, it did not reduce the intensity of the game as both teams seized every opportunity and attacked with all guns blazing. SAOBA took the lead after breaking through the centers twice but only to concede in similar fashion just minutes after scoring. SAOBA's forward pack made NTU pay for its inexperience by scoring a late try in the 2nd quarter. In the second half, NTU came back fighting, attacked for most of the remaining half. It was only in the dying minutes of the final quarter when a negligent pass was intercepted by the Saints which resulted in a breakaway try.

Despite the loss, Coach Dinosaur Cheng was very pleased with the team's performance. "Very good, Very impressive, although its the first game, the boys executed what I told them to do. Its only a practice game. We will improve from here."

Game 2 vs Bedok Kings (12 Jan)
A week after the game against SAOBA, NTU Rugby made a brave decision to take on undoubtedly one of the strongest club side in Singapore, current Cup and Plate Champions - Bedok Kings RFC
Playing on home turf, the NTU boys turned up in full force with 25 players fit and available for selection. The fact that this may be the toughest opponent the NTU has ever played, Coach Dino Cheng took the safer option and chose experience over youth for the starting 15. Fake Ang moh Peter Walker, Catwalker Tze, Potato Thiam, Undroppable Qing and Babyface Assassin Yik were all set to start.
The travelling Bedok side brought along several players who were featured in last Premier league season includes Prop Norman Sin, Hooker Dan C., Fullback Dallas P., Centers Andy Mac and Steve T. Several players who were also invited to play against NTU were former nationals - Riady P., Marcus T. Some players from rival universities were also on the squad trying to get a piece of NTU. However they shall not be identified for security and confidentiality purposes.

NTU held the vastly experienced and heavier side for a good 15 mins before the resistence was broken. Tries started pouring in as the Bedok side made full use of their huge weight advantage over a much lighter NTU pack. Despite being on the defence most of the time, NTU had their fair share of threatening the break the Bedok's line. NTU took their defence up a notch when they held the 2nd half well and only conceded one try.

After the match, Captain Tze was in good spirits despite the team losing 6 tries to none. "Its good training for the boys, we progress with every game played and by the first game, we will be ready to take on anyone"

Game 3 vs SAJC (14 Jan)
Third game in 10 days, NTU boys were pushed to their physical and mental limits as they take on the A division side of St Andrew's. Retaining most of the side which won the B division a couple years back, SAJC was not to be taken lightly. Playing on the new synthetic field in the Saint's Village, Coach Dino Cheng took the opportunity to let some new players earn their debut for NTU.
NTU were tested early in the game by SAJC as they tried to find gaps in the forwards and the backs defence line. An intelligent quick tap and go, 5m from try line by the SA forward put the Saints ahead before scoring a second try from a set piece move.
Just when all things were starting to be in SAJC's favour, NTU turned up the heat and found their momentum. The team started to string together phases which Coach Dino Cheng was exclaiming in delight. Living up to expectations, Potato Thiam inspired the backs to conjure a series of impressive moves and pull one try back.
NTU drew level in the final 10mins of the game where a simple move sent Centre Sidney Kumar breaking 60m and Potato Thiam finishing what he started.

It was unfortunate that we ran out of time just when the match was beginning to heat up.

The boys deserve a good few days break before heading back to the field and the white board for the final preparations for the upcoming Tri University Tournament."

Pre-Season Kicks off

Weeks of pre-season training under the vicious monsoon storm, the NTU warriors will officially kick start their pre-season preparations for the upcoming Tri-University Rugby Championship with a friendly match against St Andrew's Old Boys Association this Saturday 29 Dec 2007, at St Andrew's Village.

In what is turning to be a permanent annual friendly fixture for NTU rugby, it is the first time that the warriors are taking on the old boys instead of its current school teams. In this highly anticipated opener, NTU will be revealing its new look 15-a-side squad to the public. The squad which will be making the trip down to Potong Pasir this Saturday will include several St Andrew's very own school boy stars - Vice Captain Sidney Kumar,Captain MS Model-Ang Tze Shien and making his comeback from retirement - Daniel Potato Thiam. In addition to these players, school boy legend - Chris Dinosaur Cheng will also be directing the warriors from the sidelines as NTU's Forwards Coach.

Despite the need to start the pre season on a high, NTU Captain Ang is willing to take a gamble and try out several new signings made during the recent transfer window at mainly the loose forwards and outside backs department. "We need to let these players have a run and see what are they capable of then we can fit them perfectly into the team we need. This friendly is as important as any other friendlies that we will be having as part of our preparation for the tournament." a optimistic yet cautious statement made by the captain.

The Search for Missing Players goes on...

In this week's Search for Missing Players, we will highlight 2 key players who have been missing for the longest time and have yet to report back for training. They are currently unreachable by any means of communication - from facebook to Morse code.

First in line, legendary raffles school boy winger turned hooker returned winger - K.K. Kuan. Also known by his peers as KKK in short came to NTU with a illustrious history as a combined school winger in his days. Gifted with a special talent, he was converted to play at hooker in his junior college days. Last season, KKK was once again featured as a winger for NTU in the win against SMU, scoring what turned out to be the winning try in the process.

However in recent months, NTU Rugby and the media lost sight of KKK. The last we heard from him was when approached by NTU Rugby to play in the SMU ringEmail 7s tournament, he snubbed the contract offered and the reason given was that the contract did not include a driver to send him home after trainings. After several failed attempts in contacting KKK, NTU Rugby has enough support to believe that KKK has indeed gone missing. Rumours has it that a tip was made through the NTU hotline citing that KKK has been kidnapped by a certain rival university for trying to do the very same thing to one of their key members. Photographic evidence was also provided.

The second player's existence which is in doubt is none other than "Rugger who should have been a Soccer player" - Lao Ying. He has undoubtedly the biggest boot in NTU but has yet to master the art of precision kicking. Lao Ying 14 minutes of fame came when he kicked his way to the inter hall gold medal for Hall 6 last year, destroying then-powerhouse Hall 1, breaking a 6 years stronghold on the competition.

Sadly, the last time Lao Ying appeared in public was at the SMU 7s tournament in which he was denied an opportunity to kick at goal for a penalty. Since then, he too has been uncontactable. Even when the ultimate lure for players to return was casted, Lao Ying did not show up at the recent barbecue. Management strongly believed that the absence of french fries on the evening's menu may be a possible explanation. Sources has provided photographic evidence of his existence but our reporters were unable to track the player down as he is believed to be using some pretty good covers.

1st Team Training Session

1700hrs, 04 December 2007, the first public team training session after the exams break was held at the NTU Rugby Training Facilities in Nanyang Avenue. Players who first arrived at the facilities went through a brief weights session with newly hired forwards coach - Dinosaur Cheng.
Following that, the players took to the field to put on a fantastic display of sharp passing and running in a game of touch for the fans and media who were present. Both ang mohs (real and fake) were looking extremely fit and were up to the tasks in both offence and defence. However, the highlight of the day was the defence capabilities of both "Dancing Indian" Mitran and "The Big Hairy Chested Arab" Hafiz in which the number of turnovers and stolen balls by them denied the opposition from having successive phases of play.

To round up a wonderful first day of training for the team, our players were push to their physical limits with 50m sprints at the end of the entire session.
A breathless Team Captain Tze said after the game, "its an awesome session, I am proud and grateful for the boys who turned up. If this is what it takes to win the championship, we will do it!"

New Committee Takes Over!

After 3 gruelling hours of planning and discussion over some burgers, hotdogs and whiskey, NTU Rugby Team announced the new committee which will take charge of matters for the 2008 rugby season. New positions that were introduced into the existing committee are a second vice captain, and 3 Quartermasters.

Catwalker Tze with his already well prepared speech after the results were announced. "This season will be a special one for us. We need to bond the team even more, train harder together, put in 101% effort for this season. I believe its time for NTU to step up and give our fans what they all have been waiting for. With the talent we have in our squad, we can win gold if every single member of the team puts in the effort."

Senior players were please with the results. Bryanboy Yik was giggling happily when Tze was announced as the captain. "I think Tze is damn awesome la, hes responsibile, handsome, and best part, we share some same perculiar interests! Hee Hee"

IMPORTANT - Pre-Season Function & Players Meeting

Its been a tradition for NTU rugby to have a BBQ session & players meeting before the 15s season begins to welcome all team members back from their exams break as well as to initiate the new members into the squad.
This year without fail, the Pre-season function will be held on 30 Nov 2007 (Fri) at Hall One BBQ pit starting from 1700hrs.
Plans for the upcoming season will also be discussed and disclosed during the meeting.
All current/former/wannabe players are cordially invited for this event. Players are urged to confirm their attendance with Bryanboy Yik or Qing via sms latest by 29 Nov (Thurs).

Daniel Potato Thiam rejoins the Warriors

Its been confirmed! Former NTU captain - Daniel Potato Thiam will be rejoining NTU Rugby this coming season.

An official press statement was made by NTU Rugby this evening citing that after several meetings with Thiam and his agent, the board and Thiam were finally able to come to a mutual agreement. Thiam has agreed to personal terms of the contract and has already passed the medical examination.

Currently preparing for the upcoming 7s tournament in the South East Asian Games, Thiam will only be available to finalise all proceedings in mid december.

When interviewed over a tele-conference, Thiam expresses his joy of rejoining the warriors and relishes the chance of capturing the elusive Tri-University Gold. "Certainly its great news for me, the team as well as our fans. I believed I'm stronger, fitter and faster than before! Together with our new signings like Rebel Rong and Sidney, I strongly believe we can do it this time!"

Dinosaur 'interested' in NTU

Christopher "Dinosaur" Cheng has admitted he is 'very interested' in applying for the currently vacant post of assistant/forwards coach of NTU. The former NTU flanker/number 8 who has been inducted into the ranks of NTU Legends in 2005, has met with NTU Rugby officials to discuss the position.

NTU has been looking for a new assistant coach since the resignation of Assistant/Forwards coach - Tang Chong Kiat, the day after NTU lost out in the Tri-University Championship early this year.

Dinosaur Cheng, who has been closely monitoring NTU's progress over several seasons, said: "We have a few things to work out. Nothing is finalised but we are fairly close. They are fairly keen to have me on the coaching panel and I am very interested in the job."

"The challenge is appealing. If it comes off, I could not be joining at a better time. They are a young and very talented side, so the only way is up.I hope to have made my mind up before I return to Singapore next week."

However, some critics are less receptive to the news as they believe that Dinosaur Cheng's old school of thought may clash with this year's class of players who have adopted free flowing modern rugby as their main style of play. One supporter commented "It would be difficult for both the coach and the team to work with each other, but perhaps Cheng can produce something surprising and special for NTU rugby.

Another said "Dinosaur Cheng has got to first accept the fact that long sleeved jerseys and knee length socks are no longer part of the modern team kit, then the coach and the boys can work effectively"

The Prodigal Son Returns?

Speculation is rising over a second coming of NTU's Prodigal son - Daniel "Potato" Thiam.

Facing the lack of depth in the backs department, NTU Rugby decided to pull a fast one by securing a year-long loan deal which could see Potato Thiam making his way back to the west side and the Tri-University Championship. Negotiations are in progress now and a pending medical exam, NTU Rugby is determined to complete the deal during the January transfer window.

After a successful, gold winning IVP debut campaign, and despite leading NTU to countless successive finals, the former NTU captain has failed to touch gold since. The Bedok Kings Inside Centre who was once self proclaimed himself as "The best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be" NTU player, has been released on a free transfer since last summer upon graduation.

With so much still to play for this season, NTU Rugby will be hoping that Potato Thiam can now turn back the clock and reproduce his once prolific form as NTU chase the elusive Tri-Univeristy glory.

"Sub 10" Ong citing dismissed

A hearing had been heard and it was determined that the actions of Emery "Sub 10" Ong in the supposed high 'flying clothesline' tackle on his Bucks Opposite Number in the VB NRC Plate Semi-finals could not have been seen as an act of foul play.

The Committee explained that it was difficult to imagine, in the momentum Emery "Sub 10" Ong going for the tackle coupled with the fact that the Bucks player ducked at the last minute, what else Emery "Sub 10" Ong could have done to avoid the high tackle.

Moreover, upon close examination of the video replays, it was found that the first point of contact on the Bucks winger was within legal limits, should the winger not ducked at the last moment and the force of the tackle was directed downwards.

Thus the citing was dismissed.

The player was then seen fleeing the scene of a potential bust up with a gleeful smile on his face. In the early hours of a cold sunday morning, where the other teams, spectators, and some members of the organising committee were still trickling into Yio Chu Kang stadium, our commendable NTU boys were there ready to kick off our 7s campaign. Our surviving reporter is somehow present to bring you the results and updates from the ringEmail SMU 7s Rugby tournament.

Pool Stage
NTU was grouped with teams from Republic Poly, Temasek Poly, SRC Old Farts and tournament favourites/host -SMU A.
NTU started their day with wins over Republic Poly and Temasek Poly with scorelines of 19-0 and 12-5 respectively. They faced their first setback of the day when they met the SRC old farts and lost 7-12 to a last minute try. A NTU alumni was also spotted in the SRC ranks. He is none other than ex NTU prop - Kok Hwee. However, what stood out most was the respect and friendship both teams showed each other throughout the entire tournament. For that, NTU Rugby would like to thank SRC for the support it has given us during the tournament.
Last pool fixture saw a repeat of last year's NUS 7s cup finals. NTU took on tournament favourites SMU A. Fielding a much weakened side, NTU held on well and denied SMU A the landslide victory they were looking for. NTU lost the match 4 tries to nil with 2 tries scored by NTU Snubber turned SMU President- Amos Siow.
With pool stage completed, NTU finished 3rd in the table and were in the Bowl semi finals.

Bowl Semi-finals
NTU had to face the team that finished 4th from the other pool - SMU B. Still haunted by the defeat one match earlier, NTU was hungry for a revenge. The determined NTU side came out victorious in close battle with a scoreline of 12-10, sealing their place in the Bowl finals.

In the Bowl finals, NTU took on side well mixed with youth and experienced players - Tamoko Lions which included a player who had just recently joined club of NTU Alumnus - Rubberman Spencer Soh. Desperate for some recognition and silverware, the NTU boys put on a display of true class and team spirit and played out what was undoubtedly their most outstanding performance of the day, clinching the Bowl championship 24-0.

However, the success did not come without any sacrifices. Adding to the long list of injured players, In-Center SK Kevin Ang - Twisted Knee, Lock forward - Sathish - Dislocated Fingers and Center/Winger - Qing - Pulled Hamstring. (Trying to get onto the injury list - Hooker - Bryanboy Yik - Backache).

In the post tournament press conference, player/team manager - Qing commended the bravery and efforts made by the team. "Our boys showed true character and passion. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the team for putting in 110% for this tournament. It is a great start for NTU rugby this season and we can only build on this and keep improving as a team."
The team had also come to a unanimous decision that Alvin "Tigerslayer" Lim was the man of the tournament for them. His work rate and defence was a significant contribution to NTU's success. "We are looking forward to seal a permanent deal with Alvin once we get back to NTU on monday" said NTU Rugby.

A press conference was held immediately after friday evening's captain's run which the NTU team met up at the training grounds for one last time before boarding the bus and set off for this weekend's ringEmail SMU Rugby 7s. The final squad which will be travelling to this sunday's ringEmail SMU Rugby 7s was announced at the press conference. Not surprisingly, due to several key players suffering for injuries, NTU player/coach Qing had reshuffled the pack and decided to include a couple more rookies. However, the media also noticed that several senior players had been dropped from the travelling squad, most notably, the biggest signing in NTU history (literally), Rebel Rong.

As quoted during the press conference, "We have been looking forward to this tournament for a long time, despite the fact that our plans were disrupted due to key players getting injured, I believe we still have a strong side. I think selection of the side is probably the most difficult its been since we have started preparing for this. Particularly in the backs, we lost several key players to injuries like Adam "Mat Solo" Chan & Aminurashid "who cant run that fast anymore". We had one week to restructure ourselves and prepare for this tournament. Many has ruled us out as tournament favourites but we will still give every team a run for their money. The team which we will field for each match will be the team which we think that is most suitable for that particular match."

NTU scrum half Mat Solo Chan ruled out for 3 weeks

NTU have suffered a major injury blow after scrum-half Adam Mat Solo was ruled out for up to three weeks with a twisted left knee.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury during Bedok Kings training on Monday. He collapsed immediately after colliding with ex-NTU prop Stormy Normy.

" I did not touch him at all, i don't know what happened." said Stormy.

Although Adam appeared fine after some 100 plus, x-rays have revealed the full extent of the problem, leaving NTU Captain SK facing a selection headache for Sunday's SMU 7s as Catwalker Tze has also ruled himself out.(reason: i can only study on Sunday.)

NTU medical staff confirmed that Mat Solo had received an injection to counter the problem in his knee, meaning the former MVP (of the National Touch League) man will be missing for the next three weeks.

While Adam will probably not be in action until the Cup competition, Tze could still return in time for the key trip to YCK stadium this Sunday.

It means player/coach Qing will shuffle his pack for the four games on Sunday.

"NTU will be fielding a weaken side for this competition. My reason is to blood our youngsters. 7s is not as important compared to 15s. However, we are going to try our best to win it this Sunday. I encourage all rugby fans to come down to YCK stadium to watch the top 2 universities in Singapore and SMU, fight it out for the SMU ringEmail 7s Cup this Sunday starting from 8am." said the nonchalant Qing.

NTU embracing SMU 7s

Daunting? Nahhh~, say the NTU at the prospect of confronting SMU in the finals of the SMU 7s this weekend.

Global interest will boom for a fixture between a SMU side that is trying to fill up their cabinet with a 3rd trophy and a NTU outfit who have steamrolled NUS in the NUS 7s. Both NTU and SMU are expected to be tournament favourites.

With the stakes so high, NTU assistant player/coach Qing was in a surprisingly chipper mood when he faced journalists at the team's hall in a late-night press conference there.

"It didn't matter who is organising the 7s, we are going to get a good side. We are probably one of the favourites for the tournament," he said.

"It's an exciting challenge for us, we lost to SMU in the NUS 7s last year and it's exactly what we need at this point, to regain some pride and to show that we can also dominate in 7s competitions."

When asked about facing NUS in the SMU 7s,

"It's probably better to get NUS in YCK than NUS in NUS, it's going to be a great week."

Qing said the NTU coaches had been keeping an eye on SMU since they won the NUS 7s tournament nearly a year ago, aware that SMU were on course to become a force to be reckon with in 7s.

NTU have beaten SMU in each of their last 2 meetings in 15s, mostly by handsome margins.

However, Qing said the SMU rugby teams had the sort of athletes and skill level capable of mounting a serious threat.

"On their day they can beat anybody, they've proven that time and time again," he said.

"We've been fortunate against them a few times but thats in 15s."

"If you get too far ahead of yourself, you end up packing your bags and going home. We don't want to be doing that."

One of the great mysteries heading into the match will be the level of crowd support for both teams.

A healthy chunk of NTU supporters are sure to have booked tickets on the assumption the NTU would face either SMU or NUS in the finals.

Barely more than one year ago, NTU Rugby created history in the Singapore rugby community by becoming the first ever team to have their very own publications - www.nturugbynews.blogspot.com

The blog took the community by storm . Fans started visiting the site by the hundreds every day, messages started to flood the tag board and the counter never stopped increasing. The blog has reached out and touched the hearts of many ever since then. Some fans even took blog surfing to the limit by making this site their homepage.

When interviewed, NTU rugby news BIGGEST FAN aka "Confused (on the tag board)" said "I set it as my homepage so that whenever I surf the net, this will be the first site to check out"

However, after a glorious year of providing great reviews, news and insights to NTU rugby, we had to say goodbye to 3 of our pioneer editors, leaving 1 pioneer to hold the fort of this site.

Seeking this vulnerability as an opportunity to strike, SMU Rugby has recently announced their intention to enter the market of blog publicity. With their rich sponsors' blank cheque signed and all ready to invade the market, the captain of the team is keeping the faith and very confident that SMU rugby's blog will take over NTU Rugby News as the most visited rugby blog in Singapore.

In his speech during the press conference, SMU star center/winger Amos Siow said "We dont see ourselves as the next big thing. We ARE THE THING!" Strong words from the self proclaimed "the Real Refresher of NTU Rugby News" himself.

First to react to the comment were 2 of our pioneers. Stormy Normy called in from his office saying "@#%&*! We see what they write lor, I'm pretty sure that their articles will somewhat look familiar to ours!" Indeed having not let go of the incident which happened in Oct 2006, Stormy condemned their blog even before it started. Rebel Rong does it again

NTU fledgling Rebel Rong is in the news again, but not necessarily for the wrong reasons this time round. RR was spotted queueing up at the SIR building in Lavender despite having an early morning lecture by Doctor Tom Browne in NIE.

Our spies in the SIR revealed that RR was on location to edit his birthname, Yung Keng Seng by adding an English name, Anthony. His full name now reads Anthony Yung Keng Seng, or Anthony Rong, which is very much preferred by the man himself.

The self proclaimed man who's done it all (however the editors are quick to remind him that he has yet to win an interhall or IVP gold medal) is adamant that this is not a publicity move. At the current stage of his life, he is indeed blessed and fortunate to be able to be Anthony.

"NTU has got a quirky Yongyao by Day, Jed by night. I however desire to be known as Anthony both day and night. I need no more publicity in life than I can handle right now. When you single handedly cause the complete ownage of Malaysia on the field, you really don't need to create news intentionally for yourself." says RR, who was the body double of HK commedian Stephen Chow's preferred sidekick in the 90s before he discovered his talents on the rugby field.

When news spread around the community of this bold move, it was received with mixed reactions.

NTU captain SK was nonchalant about it. "Anthony Rong or Rebel Rong, he has got to show passion and composure in order to make my team. The only stars are in the sky."

"I used to be chummy with Rebel Rong. Nowadays it seems like having the name Anthony has really changed him. For the better or worse its still to be seen, but it seems like I have really lost a friend. What the f*** is Anthony, give me back Rebel Rong anytime." LTA Tang Chong Kiat replied with a sigh, sneaking out of camp for 5minutes to receive this interview.

Annual Coach Nominations

First of all, NTU rugby would like to apologise for the refreshingly boring front in recent weeks. However, striving to not to associated with our national counterpart whose website has been down since last winter, we shall bring forward our prestigious annual NTU coach of the year nominations! Our NTU selectors have carefully handpicked 3 most eligible coaches who will stand a chance to be nominated as NTU coach 2007/08

Standing first in line, NTU coach for 2006/07 - Lincoln Tan. Under Tan's guidance, NTU were runners up at the NUS 7s and Tri-Univeristy Cup last season. However, Tan's contract ended last season and despite efforts to get his signature for a renewal, he refused to put pen to paper just yet. With his experience and knowledge of the present squad, NTU selectors are confident that he could the man to lead NTU to greater achievements this year.

Next up, we have our new player but starlet-no-more - Rebel Rong. Based on his coaching credentials and aspirations to become a teaching professional, NTU Rugby Union would like to further welcome Rong on board by offering him a Player/Coach position. Although, rumours has it that Rong will most probably be offered the position as forwards coach, but nonetheless, his involvement with the squad will be a great boost to us. Only one factor is holding NTU back from offering him the contract. He has recently been observed to be showing signs of schizophrenia with his alter ego going by the name of Anthony. Further checks will be conducted before the offer will be made.

Our third and final nominee is no stranger to our fans. Daniel "Potato" Thiam is definitely on of the nominees for Head coach this year. Potato made it clear to NTU Rugby that he is available for the job by refusing the only job offer he had since graduating 3 months ago. Even after his contract has ended last season and the retirement from the NTU Rugby editorial, his passion for NTU never ceased. Apparently, he has agreed to a loan deal for an undisclosed fee with NIE which will see him return to the west side in 2008. Potato has great deal of experience playing 4 years of rugby for NTU and was also the captain for NTU in 2005/06. Even though he took on the jersey number 13 every time he takes the field, he was never featured as a center for NTU. With his skills and camaraderie with the players, he is definitely one of the favourites this year.

Other names have been considered and rejected by our selectors but the search is still on. Therefore, till the very day the new coach is announced, anyone is possible to take the helm.

THE UNVEILING - PIONEER NUMBER 4

In this highly anticpated last and final instalment to our four part special on "The Unveiling", NTU Rugby proudly presents the last member of our famous quartet. However, as our avid fans and loyal refreshers should know this promised article was seriously delayed by a few setbacks.

Following the release of the identity of our first 3 pioneers, we received complaints from the trio that their privacy has been invaded by huge number of fans every single day.

As our Fourth Pioneer still currently walks the grounds of NTU, threats to his safety and the possibility of his daily routine being disrupted if his identity is disclosed to the public was the main reason that this final instalment to the series was cut.

But to satisfy our starved fans, NTU rugby has decided to unveil the partial details of our fourth pioneer. Till the day that he is completely safe from any harrassment, then will the complete details of the fourth pioneer be released.

This last member of the Quartet made the pioneers complete with all heights and sizes - mainly Tall/Short, Heavy or Light (in your own combinations).

This pioneer's main responsibilties were to provide our fans with match previews and also current updates on our players as well as the latest transfer news in varsity rugby.

NRC Round 3

SRC vs SAFSA

With most of the matches cancelled/postponed for this round of this year's NRC, this is the only match that was played as scheduled. Backed by the bright sunshine of the evening sun, the Recs took on the Army boys at Turf City.
The match kicked off at 1700hrs with the Recs taking the field with their white/red jerseys and SAFSA in navy blue. A strong support for both teams was well represented by approximately 30 spectators. Amongst the crowd, the current national 7s coaches as well as the NTU selectors were spotted.
One of the main reasons for their appearance could be that there were a few NTU players as well as alumnis playing for the Recs. Current winger/fullback - Aminurashid and New signing center/Winger - Sidney Kumar started for the Recs spotting number 11 and 14 respectively.
With new found confidence and weight, Aminurashid displayed great handling skills under the ball as well as amazing speed to race down 20m to score the first try for the Recs.
Starlet, Sidney was also seen on many occasions given the ball strong into contact and did well retaining possesion for the team. But he was also spotted standing still in deep thoughts during the game. When approached, he said " oh.. i was thinking about tonight la..got hall camp and its OG night! the girls are awesome!"
Despite having a 15-0 lead at half time, SRC's temporory lack of concentration in the 2nd half allowed SAFSA's fullback to use his own trick in the bag - kick and chase, to score their first try of the game. The tired SRC side started to lower their intensity and pace and allow the youthful SAFSA boys to run at them. With every single attack getting hit backwards by a resurgent SAFSA side, SRC's resolute defence finally cracked open and allow the boys in blue to put in 2 more tries.
The match ended with SAFSA emerging victorious with a scoreline of 19-15. The crowd was stunned by the result and an awkward silence could be felt when the final whistle was blown.
The spirit of the SAFSA boys impressed our NTU selectors but more importantly, our selectors are glad that our NTU boys are coping and doing well in their clubs.
Ex NTU captain who is currently unemployed - Potato Thaim said - "Its good to see our boys playing and coping well with club rugby, it is important for them to get more exposure before the new ivp season starts again."

The Unveiling - Pioneer Number 3

This week's Man of the moment, the 3rd Pioneer in our groundbreaking series is a one of a kind 'pocket' dynamo, where he fits the pocket in length but not in width. Was there ever a doubt that Potato Thiam, the name commonly chanted in the rugby stadiums across Singapore, was not part of this ensemble? For a dude deemed one of the last true St Andrews legends of MODERN rugby (Chris Dinosaur Cheng is not modern rugby), it seemed only fitting that Potato would roll down the road less travelled by those before him to try his hand at blogging. And what a smash hit it has become indeed.

For the uninitiated, Daniel Potato Thiam is a true rugby superstar of NTU, known fondly by the china, indian and vietnamese fans in NTU as the King. He is now recognised as one of the best first-fives in the history of NTU rugby (self proclaimed) but his modest demeanor off the field is in contrast to his presence on the pitch (meaning his lack of height covers lengths of the field). Debuting for the NTU Rugby team in 2003, he became a star that same year, displaying huge talent at the tender age of 21. He was a member of the title-winning NTU squad in the 2003 season and top-scored for NTU. The highlights of his first-fives performances are his patented, famous, heart-stopping 'niao niao' kicks for the Champions Bedok Kings last season. There was early confusion in the community as Potato was often 'spotted' masquarading as a touch player for NTU, where it all turned out that he just looks alot like someone in the touch team.

Within the Boon Lay GRC, King Thiam is as arrogant as NTU's new signing Rebel Rong.

"I am the King. I can do anything I want. The field is my stage. The spotlights are on me. This is my yard, so buzz off"

Quotes like this can be heard day in day out when he is caught illegally parking his car in NTU and for being caught peeing outside of the urinal cubicle by the elderly cleaning lady. Indeed, he believes that his aura and presence extends into a realm beyond that of the boundaries of the field. Clearly he is mistaken, hence his more commonly known nickname of Potato.

Potato possesses a dynamic array of physical and mental skills, including respectable pace (for 84kg man), deceptive strength and a dangerous side-step. Although Potato is not a reliable goal-kicker, he is an astute tactician and a calm backline general.On the pitch he wow his fans with his FM a-like tactics, masterminding many victories over the past 4 years. He tried his hands on rugby management in 2007 where he engineered a famous victory for Hall 6 over Hall 1 in the inter hall rugby competition. Despite achieving a C6 for GP during his 'A' levels, he stepped up to the call of duty and dived straight into the blogging world. A true master tactician as he comes up with countless headlines that draws as many as 100 viewers per day during this blog's heydays.

Potato was the Director of the Photography Department, demonstrating extreme resourcefulness in locating compromising pictures of individuals who never even knew those pictures existed. Currently bumming around after graduation, he expressed extreme disappointment at the current crop of young editors whom which he personally handpicked to carry on the torch.

' I can understand if you are young and you make mistakes. But by not updating at all, you are throwing away the chance to learn the art of news creation. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of updates, given mine, Stormy's and Awesome Kiat's previous dedication towards this site. I personally appeal for more of the youngsters to step up and demonstrate their abilities. Everyone has a chance to be part of this.'

The Unveiling - Pioneer Number 2

In the 2nd of a 4 part instalment, we will continue presenting the highly anticipated identity of yet another pioneer who shook the rugby world when they created an account in this blogspot community, bringing their ocassional shenanigans in the passe yahoo groups to light to the millions who clamour for such updates.

Today's pick of the week is none other than Norman, or more fondly remembered by everyone as Stormy Normy. Stormy Normy hailed from the then wastelands of rugby, CJC and promptly fell in love with the game, even though he got his ass whooped every tournament. Signed to a major institution NTU, his luck fared no better as he perenially finished with a silver medal in every tournament he featured in, be it 15s, 7s or touch.

He finally struck gold when this blog was started, as it soon became clear that NTU has finally found a winner in this. To enhance his already proven writing credentials, Stormy signed up for module AAE208 Creative Writing in NIE, undergoing painful wednesday afternoons trying his best to stay awake to learn the art of writing. Again, it is the jumping of the counter and the rave reviews of loyal fans that really kept him going during the difficult period of his life.

Never one to shy away from controversies, Stormy Normy believes strongly in the freedom of press and is never one to backoff from a difficult assignment. He is solely responsible for all the controversial articles that has created quite a stir among the community, especially for his accurate but shocking portrayals of the other varsities. It is his no holds barred attitude that finally earned him the respect of hardened refreshers like Curious, Confused, Refresher and Fan, just to name a few.

" The fans have a right to know and I have a right to report. If you don't like what you see, stop jamming up the bandwidth because there are millions out there who cares.." Stormy famously said to a fellow reporter once, when asked about the spillover effects that his harsh words would create.

Now a veteran in the writing scene, Stormy has begrudgingly given up his role in this successful startup due to his graduation from NTU. "I would love to stay on forever as this is my baby. Everyone can see NTU are very strong in the blogging department at the moment. There are a lot of world class writers there and most of them are younger than me, have their best years ahead and will get better and better."

Having spent the best of his 3 years in NTU, Stormy has expressed regret in not competing for top honours in the Blogfest against the likes of Xia 'photoshop' Xue and Dawn 'Plastic" Yang. "The failure to secure the gold in the IVP has already been a fact and considering the quality of the opposition we faced, we have no more complaints. But this blog is really something and could have gone places beyond we ever imagined, if only we even dared to dream..."

The Unveiling - Pioneer Number 1

This pioneer we are going to reveal today is one of the last few surviving NTU warrior to have tasted gold medal success in the IVP rugby scene, winning it when he was only Year 1. Sad to say, his career hit a plateau when he tried repeatedly but failed to secure all 3 colours Gold, Silver and Bronze to add to his cabinet of trophies. He is none other than Tang Chong Kiat aka AWESOME.

Born in 1982 and 2nd in a family of 2 brothers, Awesome Kiat took up rugby in Raffles Institution after he has been there and done that captaining the RI under14 basketball team to glory. 'I need a new challenge..' he said and promptly took up the robust sport despite lacking in size. His natural all-round sporting ability ensured that he quickly broke into the first team as a flanker and in years to come, cemented his place in the Raffles legend book as the calm headed flanker you could count on to get the job done.

Nobody knows when Awesome's penchant for writing really developed, but during his younger days he was known for his sporting prowess rather than his penmanship. A nasty knee injury sustained during the 2006 NRC Division 1 game between Bedok Kings and SRC effectively forced Awesome Kiat out of the picture for the IVP championships. Never having fully recovered (due to lack of immediate attention with an SRC cum SMU cum ex Raffles hooker turned flanker opting to unsportingly play on instead of dishing out medical aid) from his career threatening knee injury, Awesome Kiat walks with a limp up and down the cloud covered hills of NTU just to reach the high-speed internet connected library to bring you fans the latest updates of the blog (while icing his knee at the same time).

In his own words, 'Sometimes i feel like just giving up, given my condition. However, the amazing jump of the counter really digs deep into my soul and gives me the strength and passion to carry on being part of this historic act. My dream is to be recognized by the blog feast committee. '

Despite his injury, Awesome Kiat's talents were not unnoticed by the now defunct SRU, who praised him repeatedly for being a nippy winger who made up for his lack of speed with deceptive side-steps and change of pace. His reputation and experience is immense and is sorely missed by NTU. Despite only featuring on the coaching panel this recent IVP, he was still very much a threat in NUS's mind as they repeatedly sent prop Mark 'Sausage' Koh to hang on the wing just in case Awesome Kiat suited up for the game.

Awesome Kiat is the director of our Match Reports division. As he is busy protecting the country and the army camp's numerous canteens on a full time basis now, his nature of work over at the blog is of a very specialized nature (meaning he rarely updates).

Give a round of applause to Pioneer Number 1 Awesome Kiat who has certainly entertained you guys with his many accurate match reports and pre-season updates.

NRC 2007 Pre Season - Transfer Window Round-Up

The countdown to the new season officially begins. With 21 days to the start of NRC 2007,our NTU Rugby reporters are out and about to bring you the latest updates on recent transfers and players to watch out for this coming season.

Bedok Kings
The reigning premier league and cup champions have further strengthened their squad by snapping up 2 players from SRC - NTU star prop/hooker - Stormy Normy & Speedy Winger - Emery "Sub 10" Ong. Stormy put pen to paper immediately upon return from his europe escapade after agreeing to personal terms with the club.
The Kings are also looking to secure the services of NTU legend - Chris "Dinosaur" Cheng on a short term loan deal from University of Queensland. However, negotiation has stalled as the club is refusing Dinosaur Cheng's request to play in his original Second Five Eighth position.
Meanwhile, Potato Thiam, Awesome Kiat, Undroppable Qing and Rebel Anthony Rong has further committed their future to the club by signing a one year extension to their contracts.
Players whose future with the club is certain includes Division 2 star fly half and Summer touch MVP - Adam Chan, One training wonder - KKK.

Singapore Recreation Club
After losing 2 key players to Bedok Kings, SRC stepped up in the transfer market and secured deals to sustain their bid to compete for top honours in Division 1. Contracts were offered to current players - NTU Starlet - Sidney Kumar and NTU Veterens - Aminurashid, and Hafiz "The Arab".
Rumours has it that they are in negotiations to secure deals with "Catwalker" Tze and "Dancing Indian" Mitran. Catwalker Tze's last minute decision to sign with SRC instead of Bedok Kings was disclosed in a private interview. "I think I will be better off with SRC, their bathing facilities with clear glass doors allow me to get a full "understanding" of my teammates."

Brewerkz Bucks
Last year's league and cup runners-up are also working on a deal with ex/to-be NTU player - Arjun "Show It" Pandey. But will he "show it" at Bucks is still a question to be answered. The player is unreachable for an interview.

Singapore Cricket Club
The Padang Giants have once again gotten "Baby Face Assassin" Yik to commit his future to the club for a third year running. It was considered to be the Deal of the Century as inside sources revealed that SCC has to offer was ice cream and provide shorts and socks in exchange of the schoolboy Star Hooker's signature on the contract.

Tribute to NTU Finest

NTURugby would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the 06-07 Graduation Batch of players. They are:

Their involvement and effort put into this team is without a doubt exceptional. Their passion for the game has infused a sense of belonging and a motivational factor for younger players to play for NTU. Their efforts have brought the team to new heights and set a platform to achieve better result in the future.

As these players enter the next phase of their life, they leave behind a trail of memories deeply engraved in the hearts of current NTU players.

Yik: (Speaking with a heavy heart) I'm going to miss Stormy the most. He has been a great toilet-mate and dota-buddy who encourages and motivates me to study and play. Thanks Norm.

Fake & Real Ang-moh: We greatly believe these players have done a great job in gelling the team together. Their contributions can be seen on and off the pitch and although we hope as much they would just flunk a paper or 2, we wish the best for their future.

Salsa-King Ang: Ya, I have to agree with Yik and the 2 Ang-mohs. They have done the team proud. But not to worry, I will lead the them to greater glory in days to come.

Magician Jason: For me, I'm gonna miss my room-mate the most - Darren. He has given me superb guidance as a senior and encouraged me to shave bald. That's why we have the same hair-cut for a period of time. Cheers Darren

New Season . New Updates

First and foremost, the new editors would like to apologize to ALL loyal fans of nturugbynews.blogspot for not keeping up with time. We are now back. Back with a vengeance.

Since the semester break, most of the ntu players have gone into hibernation. Only a few active souls are active with this season's m1 league. Our newly hired out-door correspondent caught up with a few of the players and this is what one of them have to say:

NtuRugby: Hi Mit, how have you been? We've heard rumours of you joining SRC season. Is that true?

Mit: ya ya. of course, SRC is the best man!. Free beer, Excellent facilities, Nice clubhouse...blah blah.

NtuRugby: (Cheap Skate). Okay, but how has it been there? still confident of this season after losing some KEY players (E.g. Stormy Normy & Sub 10 Ong)

Mit: ya ya. We are. Our team managed to pouch a number of young talents and we can't wait to showcase them soon. Top Secret for now, can't tell you who yet.

NtuRugby: Ah alright! That's good to know. However, we have had rumours that you've been skipping trainings on a particular day of the week, What can you say about that?

Mit: Ermmm.. No Comments.

NtuRugby: OH come on!! Stop being a wuss....

Mit: OKAY La! Recently, I have had an interest in dancing. So I took it up. It takes place once a week (Thurs) at St. James. Those interested, please join me there.

Latest updates from the far forsaken land of NTU, its been cold and quiet ever since Bryanboy Yik packed his bag, went to the mountains to pursue and refine the art of Miracle Healing with his master. Although once in a while, passerbys will catch of our very own Abominable snowman walking around with his pink water bottle in the hall one corridor, that's about it for NTU rugby until recently!

NTU "captain" SK Ang has finally broke the ice for the new season. After disappearing without a trace since the end of the season, he sent his first spam of the new season on 21 May, 1423hrs. Other than the usual adminstration stuff, he laid down plans for the new NTU team such as training programmes, equipment purchase and also speaks about players acquisition.

Amongst those, the board has decided that they shall only release 3 names of the new players acquired during the transfer window.

Rebel Rong - has finally completed the move from ACJC which was unforseenly delayed for 11 years.

Sidney Kumar - Pundits predicted him to be the next big thing and the NTU selectors certainly hope that he can fill the shoes of retired Potato Thiam

When the last name was announced, it took the media room by surprise. He was remembered to have chosen not to be featured in last season's squad. Yes! He is the once influential - Mr Arjun.

The NTU team has already received some feedbacks with regards to the latest announcement. Players expressed mixed feelings.
One player who remained annoymous said its good to have him back, he will certainly boost the strength of our forwards.
Some other players showed their disgust with the decision and have submitted their request to be made available for loan/transfer for the season. But nothing is finalised yet. NTU rugby news will be the first one to bring you the latest updates.

Word has it that the unidentified female fan featured in the earlier posts has been seriously considering taking down her hung-up boots, rekindling her shortlived but eventful playing career as a prop/winger.

The editors received first hand information that this female fan currently weighs in at the 50 odd kg region, probably putting her out of contention for her favoured prop role. Given her natural flair and speed, with a tenacious character and never say die spirit, she was best known as the Maria Sharapova of rugby during her earlier playing career, less for her looks and more for her grunts and growls.

'Given the shambles and dire straits that Singapore rugby is in now, it certainly takes more than just proper updating of the SRU website to improve the situation. I believe I still have what it takes and I will prepare myself fully for the extreme challenges that lie ahead. Given my current shape, it will take much effort to get back into the optimum to play my favoured position prop. Until then, I prefer to remain anonymous.'

In addition, this female fan has been spotted desperately trying to uncover the secret identities of our editors which we think is starting to cross the line.

This female fan has requested the editors not to reveal her identity for now. But the most realistic chance of catching her in action should be the upcoming Blacks midnight 7s. Before that, you readers may be able to catch a glimpse of her at the favourite supper hangouts of Boonlay.

This female fan usually hangs out in the NTU South Spine, claiming to be a business student.
She is believed to be within close proximity of Catwalk Tze over the past weeks.
She was also caught lining up and naming several suspects as editors. Rumours has it that she has closed down on one prime suspect whose identify is too complicated to be disclosed.
Our intelligence unit has also found out that this female is well capable of producing salivated bubbles while talking.
She often punctuates her sentences with awkward laughters or grunts.

Best Foreign Player award

There are 4 nominations for this year's Best Foreign Player award. They are; 'Fake Ang Mo' Peter Walker, 'Pussy Ang mo' Zac, JJ- Jonathan Jacob and 'Bali wonder' Andy Hadianto Prakarsa.

Fake Ang Mo has been impressive, demonstrated amazing strength and aggression throughout the season. Top of the list with the most number of hand-offs and tackles made, as well as consecutive times being burnt by front rowers during touch, he is definitely the favorite to win this award.

Stormy said, 'Fake ang mo is really good. But is he even qualified to be nominated for this award? Its only for REAL ang mos. He is fake. I suggest that the organisers should check it up.'

Despite being only 19 yrs old, Pussy Ang Mo Zac showed his maturity on and off the field. On the field, he was a very serious rugby player, running hard, tackling hard, drinking from a ferocious looking pink water bottle every training.

Ah Huang said, ' Zac is a really nice guy. I love him. We are poker buddies. I am the NTU hall 1 Poker champion. Zac halts from Canada and self proclaim to be the Canada poker prodigy.'

JJ-Jonathan Jacob only joined NTU rugby team late into the pre-season. I do not know why he is nominated for this category. i suspect that its because his name sounds ang mo enough. He speaks with a slight accent too, probably hasn't perfected the real stuff. This ex-SAJC starlet deserves praise for taking time off his exceptionally tough year 1 academic life to grace the field with the final year players, and bears testament to the Chinese phrase of "Chang Jiang Hou Lang tui Qian Lang", literal translation meaning for every wave of water in the river, the back waves are pushing the front. He is definitely making a statement that where men compete in the arena, age is no barrier.

Bali native Prakarsa is a versatile player who has been with the team for 2 years. Originally a flyhalf, he immediately switched to wing with ease upon seeing Potato Thiam hogging that position for the past few years. With a personal favourite move of letting players run past him before letting other team mates tackle them, Prakarsa readily involves his team mates into the game.

' Some of the forwards do not even touch the ball the whole game. Its a little something I can do to let them experience the game more."

Prakarsa has been lying low for the season, but he is most fondly remembered for turning up for every session that has playing kit being distributed. Currently, he has looted a couple of water bottles, jerseys, socks, shorts and a couple of Tze's underwear for the Bali bomb blast international aid relief.

ZZZ heads list for NTU starlet award

Inter-Vasity Cup runners-up NTU nominates 4 outstanding starlets for the Starlet of the Year award. The nominees are; ZZZ (Tze-ness aka the Catwalker), KKK (Ku Ku Kwan), FFF (French Fries Farker aka Lao Ying) and SK (Salsa King aka War Machine aka Eye brow plucker).

NTU's Potato Thiam has described Starlet ZZZ, who has been nominated by his fellow professionals along hall 1 corridor, as `the best in the NTU'.

Potato added: 'I totally admire the player after he was forced to step into KKK's winger position after the he was injured in the match against SMU.'

'That was understandable after all he played in various positions in the backs in TP, that beat NUS for second place during that IVP season. But he has handle it so well. He has done all his talking on the pitch.'

'I could just watch him play touch rugby. He does things with the ball that you don't see anyone else in the world doing the at the minute. Everything he does is poetry, the slow-motion running and passing of the ball.'

'When he is at his best I don't think there are many people who can stop him. When he is running at you in slow motion like he does with his skills and tricks, you don't know which way he is going. He simply mind-f*** his opponents.'

KKK and SK are unfortunate. They both suffered injuries during the season and are the dark horses to clinch the coveted award.

FFF is bottom of the list as he frustrates the corridor people who are voting, for stealing their french fries.

Maxim's Boxers Pool Party

Despite the recent exam fever, some of the more happening NTU boys have not forgotten to look to a lighter side of life in rest and relaxation. Most notably, 'Babyface Badboy Assasin' Yik and Jason 'Rainman" Law have been steering towards an ATAS night life as they were spotted dressing up for a recent Maxim's 'Members-Only' Boxers Pool Party(took us some effort to find out about this secret underground party). Just as NUS having their CLEO Bachelor, stickman Wayne, NTU has our very own Maxim Boxers Boys, looking to usurp the throne to much fame and fortune.

But little did us sneaky Editors expect how literally our resident party-goers took to the theme.
Our editors has decided to disclose the exact details of the interview without any censorship.

e-rugby: Yik! what's up with the boxes?
Yik: oh the theme is boxers, so i thought i can be innovative by wearing these
e-rugby: so what is the occasion?
Yik: Come lah! all go together! we'll have fun together! how awesome!
e-rugby: ok! but what exactly is it?
Yik: Go leh! we share cab there then Law can fetch us back later!
e-rugby: ermmm.. what party is it?
Yik: Confirm Fun! Angmoh Zak, Law and all the rest of them are also going..after that we all can come back and sleep together!
e-rugby:......... and Law! are you planning to go in that outfit as well?
Rainman Law: I got no more underwear left, someone has been 'borrowing' from me! so no choice, gotta borrow from Yik.

Recent speculation has propelled the scantily-dressed duo to prominence in line with Japanese Hard Gay. Talks are underway in developing a Singaporean Hard Gay duo and rumour has it that they have clinched a lucrative performing contract in local gay pub, Happy.

Exam periods bring out the animal in everyone. Take self proclaimed 'Mr Handsome' Tze for example, who on a fateful saturday evening started talking about his as well as other teammate's underwear.

An undercover editor recovering from mouth related injuries was thankfully present to capture the highly controversial conversation. Due to budget problems, the recorder in use was of a 1992 model and distorted recordings had to be filled in to the best that our forensics department can muster. Behold the exclusive leak brought to you only by Nturugbynews.blogspot, where we bring you the latest and the juiciest.

' .....I'm making my way back home for some crabs and a whole new range of underwear. I have run out of clean ones and as SK is never around nowadays, I cant wear his underwear like I used to. He has some t-back and jockey straps which i find very practical when i go to tanning salons for butt waxing. They also give me a very nice and even tan line...'

' I have been considering borrowing some fresh underwear from Druggy Hoe but recently we have been undergoing a series of intensive cup size measuring sessions, and it is to my dismay that he has a smaller cup size than me when it comes to the package.. Nevertheless, the sessions were enjoyable while it lasted..I just have to wear my own instead for now...Life's tough'

When shown the audioclip, members of the team responded fervently with mixed views.

" I noticed Tze and SK with locked doors many a night, making them the prime suspect of being the editors of the blog. Now, they can be ruled out for sure!" says Confused, whose mood rises and drops according to the posts on the blogs.

' I shudder to think who else could be involved in this shady dealing...." says a distraught teammate who refused to be named.

"Bo jio...we should smoke first then go to bed together..all of us" said Badboy Yik who was last sinbinned in an SMU match for throwing his face into the crotch of an unidentified SMU player.

A female fan (identity protected in case of retaliatory flamings) of ntu rugby often spotted at games and trainings had further insights to reveal. "Tze is handsome, but its a pity he's swayed to the wrong side. I tried chatting him up a couple of times but all he could talk about was how defined Hardcore Yao's body was, the immaculately shaped chest, the intricate veins running down his biceps and inner thighs, meandering their way up and into the shorts beyond sight. By this time I was already feeling nauseous but he carried on commenting about Golden boy Kim Hock's nice build and wash board six pack. I dont know how to help this poor boy..."

Post Season Updates

Due to the recent complaints of inefficiency, our new e-rugby management has decided to announce that there shall be at least one new post every week to satisfy our hungry fans.
This week, we dispatched our reporters to find out how have some of the NTU ruggers have been coping ever since the end of the season.

First on the list, we located our swan song players – Daniel ‘Potato’ Thiam, Awesome Kiat, and Stormy Normy. The 2 engineering graduates-to-be were caught in Nanyang Business School, trying to pose as business students. Both admitted to hacking into business students’ accounts in order to gain access to several restricted facilities specially reserved for business students only. However, the spotlight was on Stormy Normy during the interview. As he walked into the room, our reporters cant help but noticed that he had a slight limp.
e-rugby: So Stormy, what happened to your leg?
Stormy: I pulled my hamstring while playing touch
e-rugby: Oh! How did it happen?
Stormy: Its complicated… I boldly admit that i'm the biggest and fastest player that day at touch rugby. Some of the high profile players i burnt include; Lao Ying, Tze-ze-ze-zeness, Sub-10 Ong and Mr. MVP himself, Mat-Solo Chan. Thiam's wide pass wasn't accurate enough, and i have to jump, stretch and juz to get a finger tip connection with it. And to the shock of my rugby playing career, i felt a 'pop' in my hammy which send shivers up my spine. My life flash past me that instance. I seriously think Thiam should get a pair of gloves, his passing is not up to standard. But thanks to him, i came to understand the one and only injury that plagued the NTU rugby players. I can understand how SK, TZE and KKK felt when they kena it.
e-rugby: Thiam! Is it true?
Potato Thiam: No leh! I'm juz trying to put him in his place... that is.... HE IS THE BIGGEST but NOT-VERY-FAST player. He should stop following the footsteps of KKK, trying to pose as a winger. Normy should have seen it coming long time ago. Just a few weeks back, Rebel Rong also had the same 'accident'. He 'hamstrung'.
Next, we tried catching up with yet another swan song player – Darren “Druggy-no-more” Hoe. However, “Druggy-no-more” was unable to provide us some attention as his eyes were glued to the computer monitor while playing EA Sport Rugby 2006 in the room or he was desperately trying to find an excuse to return to the room for some undisclosed reason.

On top of that, e-rugby research team has come up with a list of players who have disappeared and remained unreachable after the season.

LaoYing
Rumours have it that he has returned to his mountain to focus on overcoming the “Cut One” psychological barrier before he is allowed to return to the pugilistic world. E-rugby is also trying to contact MacDonald’s to verify the rumour that Laoying is officially banned from all its fast food outlets in Singapore for being a French Fries F****r

SK
He has disappeared from the Hall One corridor immediately after the season ended. Close friends claimed that he was too upset that the A&E personnel shaved off the top part of his hair and he will only return after his hair is restored. There were also eye witnesses’ accounts stating that he was found loitering in Hall One at times but no concrete evidence was filed.

Praga
He disappeared even before the season started claiming that he would rather concentrate more on his monastery career. After 4 months of disappearance, he was found by our reporters TODAY, trying to set a NTU Record of taking the longest time to walk to school. He claims that he plans to smash the record by more than 3 hours. he original record stands at 14mins38seconds to complete the 1.4km journey. Praga set off at 1030 am this morning and e-rugby wishes him the best of luck!

Controversy amidst settling dust

Weeks after the recently concluded IVP where NUS surged on with a successful defence of their title, fresh allegations have emerged from the Clementi camp regarding the eligibility and integrity of their fiercest rivals, 3-time unlucky NTU Boonlay warrior's 2007 campaign. Coach Tan is accused of fielding overaged players in a bid to wrest NUS's iron grip on the Varsity Rugby Challenge.

In the centre of the brewing storm is rumoured to be NTU's freshman winger KKK. KKK is no stranger to controversies, having been doubted as a winger throughout his rugby career. Singapore's very own 'Mouth of the South' , international prop Mark Lee even commented that KKK has been masquarading as a winger his whole life, and that he needs to get a grip on himself to resurrect a flailing career. Initially thought as a godsent to solve NTU's shortage of quality front rowers, KKK adamantly insisted on hugging the touchlines with his immense 'speed', refusing to even go near any scrums. Most recently, KKK is accused of being grossly overaged to play in a varsity tournament.

"All due respect to NTU, but I see no reason how me and my teammates can believe KKK is an undergraduate, much less a freshman. I am not a loser, much less a sore loser. This is about integrity and accountability to oneself. I have had troubles sleeping at night and I really need to whistle blow on this matter" said NUS's ethiopian stickman Wayne, when asked to comment on the his IVP victory during the Cleo Top 50 Bachelor awards night.

" I hail from the mighty lands of Kenya and I thought I have seen everything there is to see. I am certainly shocked to see KKK in person and I pray for this poor boy, erm old man." said NUS No.8, fondly remembered by fans as the Black Panther for his powerful running style.

An informal complaint is said to be lodged with SRU and a trial is expected to be held in the coming weeks. When contacted, KKK refused to comment on the allegations, brushing them aside as a load of crap.

" I have absolute faith and trust in my players. When KKK told me he was only 21 and eligible, I did not hesitate to believe him. Well ok maybe I was shocked but still, I stand by my players. Everyone is innocent unless proven guilty." NTU Captain SK's parting words to the reporters present as he stood to leave the packed media room with KKK.

THE REAL TRUTH

To silence all the recent comments and accusations of some NTU ruggers doubling up as a part time cheerleader, our e-rugby reporters went back in time and found out the truth behind everything.
Our sources confirmed that all the accusations are true!! We managed to traced the lineage of these so called Rugby Cheerboys way back to the year 2005. With picture evidence to supporting the claim, the most original, the grandfather of all Rugby Cheerboys, was in fact undisputed number one prop in NTU over the past 3 years - Stormy Normy.
After brushing off several accusations and attempts to put him in the cheerleading outfit, Stormy Normy held his stand and commented, "Prove it if you can!"
So here it is! Back in 2005, Stormy Normy opened to path for ruggers who are more inclined towards the cheerful, jumpy sort. He represented his hall in the annual inter-hall cheer competition with another buddy who is also a rugger. (we are tracking him down too)
Stormy had such a successful campaign that he inspired the following generations to follow his path.
The following year, NTU debutants - Babyface Assassin Yik and Daniel "i love poker" Huang donned the cheerleading outfit However this will still remain an accusation as both players refused to admit the claim. Our reporters will bring you concrete evidence as soon as its available. When interviewed, Yik said "No la, what nonsense.. heh heh.. lac ah.. you want to know, you go ask Norman!!" and he ran away with a sheepish smile.

Lastly, the plaintiff who started it all, Alvin "Tiger Slayer" Lim was somehow found guilty for the very same accusation he made. He is actually the latest addition to the cheerboys family. Picture evidence of him secretly training with his hall cheerleaders was exposed. It was also noted that Tiger Slayer was actually doing double shifts on some days where he has to rush off for cheerleading practice immediately after rugby training. When asked for a clarification, he admitted to the claim and pointed his finger towards Stormy as well..

We are indeed impressed by the way brave Stormy Normy inspired the younger generations!

NUS Punishes NTU with Late Blitz, Retains Inter-University Crown

A late onslaught inspired NUS as they retained the Inter-University title with a decisive and deserved 25-3 win over Team NTU in a fiery-contested match last evening at Yio Chu Kang stadium.

The opening minutes of the game lived up to their billing with both sides pushing hard to create flowing attacking phases and territorial advantage. Both defences were relatively impressive, though, with NTU hooker ‘Badboy’ Yik and No.8 Spencer Soh both making their mark with some shuddering hits.

The Boon Lay Warriors opened the game strongly and spun the ball wide at every opportunity against a very flat NUS defence, but it was Team NUS who opened the scoring on twenty minutes with a simple penalty goal from fullback Mike Perry.

Referee Mohammed Azhar stamped his authority on the game early, coming down hard on both sides for infringements in the ruck.

Initially, it was the Warriors who found the greater penetration, courtesy of a 28th minute break by flyhalf ‘Potato’ Thiam after he linked up with ‘Lao Ying’ off a counter-attack. But once the NUS forwards began to find their drive and cohesion, especially from lineouts, there was a more assured look to their play through a sturdy platform.

Both teams made errors and conceded turnovers but crucial ones frequently had the Warriors scrambling backwards in defence.

NUS centre Jonathan Chen scored the opening try just before halftime, which Perry duly converted, taking a 10-0 lead going into the interval.

NTU started the second half with a hiss and roar as they looked sharper in set pieces. A catch-and-drive from a 5m lineout set up a promising platform; and from the resulting play, the ball was spun wide off a well-worked backline move, only for the final pass from fullback ‘Lao Ying’ to winger ZZZ to be deemed as a forward pass.

The opening points for NTU came in the 56th minute after ‘Lao Ying’ slotted a penalty goal. But it didn’t take long for Perry to respond with his second penalty goal just minutes after.

Fresh legs told a telling difference as NUS edged out the battle at breakdowns late in the second half. Two tries in the final 12 minutes to replacement hooker Thomas Zheng and the No.8 sank Team NTU, who had been looking to take the ascendancy through an industrious effort.

A turnover in the NTU-22 at the 68th minute cost the Warriors as the ball went wide and eventually found the winger who skated Thomas in untouched on the inside for Team NUS’s second try of the night.

A final nail in the coffin arrived 4 minutes later when NUS No.8 claimed a loose ball from a ruck just outside the NTU-22 and raced into open territory for the simplest of tries.

“It’s hard to take, but that’s sport. We could wallow in dejection now, but I don’t think that would be the right thing to do,” skipper Kevin ‘Salsa King’ Ang told Blogosphere reporters.

“We saw in the second half how tired some of our players were. Players like Hairy Mal and Stormy Normy have given all they can and we can be proud of ourselves,” he said.

“We played some good rugby and we just have to kick on from here. All we can do today is compliment a NUS side that played better rugby than us,” said Coach Lincoln Tan.

Rongo: "Basically the roles are almost similar in many aspects...which is to beat the opposite man to the space available. He has played centre before for bedok kings and has performed above himself even when he was played out of position at the premier league level, therefore, he should be able to perform on the weekend."

Editors: "Next key clash, Anilnator against Potato- who ya got??"

Rongo: "Its a story of two first fives with contrasting styles of play. Anil has a pretty decent kicking game and Potato has a good running game. The advantage is that Thiam also has a kicking game in his arsenal and that gives him the advantage in the battle of the first fives. Thiam is a centre by training and this could be crucial as he would be able to give his backs forward impetus with ball in hand."

Editors: "Ok... last question Rongo. The battle for Full back supremacy, Mike Perry vs Lao Ying who ya got?????"

Rongo: "This is a tough call, i have seen both players play and i think that Mikey could come out tops in this contest. Playing in div 1 for SRC gives him the advantage over Lao ying in terms of experience and this could be a telling factor in a game of such magnitude. Although Lao ying has the potential to develop further as a player if he gets the same amount of exposure like Qing. But for the game this sat, i'll have my money on Mikey to come out tops in this battle of the fullbacks"

NUS Prop lays down the gauntlet

Villian turned Hero NUS front rower Marky Koh was the toast of the Clementi pretenders last week as he accelerated onto the ball and spun past 2 SMU players before plopping himself onto the try line for 5 points and victory. Earlier in the game, he was spotted harrassing SMU RichFuck (aka SMURF) star Dezzo and had even been instrumental in SMU's fightback, flicking on a pass onto Alex Chew who ran the length of the field unopposed to score between the posts.

As the team prepare for this weekend's title deciding match against the toast of the town Boonlay boys, this Ex-hotdog seller turned full time student is adamant that he is not affected by all the thrash talking dished upon him by the Boonlay Rebel Rong.

"Everyone knows that it is in his nature to talk. For people in the know, they take it in their stride, but I have seen skirmishes resulting from it as well. I am focused on my mission during the weekend, that is to wheel the Boonlay scrums, dominate the rucks and dish out big hits. I know that I have to get bigger and faster, and I have been doing supper intensively and I am proud to say I have completely filled out my jersey, almost too completely."

"When it comes down to the crunch, let's see who can walk the walk and talk the talk. Rebel Rong may be the double winners in the NRC league this year. But he has never won any IVP accolade at all. With all due respect, my 2 gold medals speak for themselves."

Marky Koh has blossomed over the years, from his humble beginnings in rugby minnows Catholic JC to the 2 time fluke winners NUS. Yet it is hard to imagine that just a couple of years ago, this poster boy for the Singapore Aunties Association was contemplating ending his rugby career due to a rare retina problem. Contact lens saved his career and the future outlook of Singapore Rugby.

"I am very fortunate to still enjoy this game of rugby. I guess Singapore is just as fortunate to have me. I do not have many idols in this game as I very much focus on my own game. However, I find that Undroppable Qing from Boonlay is very handsome with his new haircut. I have been following his progress for a few years and I have been nothing short of being impressed."

"When Qing runs at me, there will be a tinge of regret and familiarity. His looks may dazzle me but sad to say, I will still lay the smack down on his candy ass. Just Bring It...and nice ass by the way."

Looks like this NUS final year student is determined to get back returns from ending his lucrative hot dog business by making it a third time lucky for the Clementi pretenders. From the looks of it, its anybody's game now.

NTU team Capt SK has revealed team spirit is driving him and his warrior team-mates on in their quest for silverware.

Coach Tan's men lead the Intervasity Table by an extra bonus point, and will play NUS in the title deciding match later next week. The Boonlay boys need only a draw to reclaim the trophy they narrowly and undeservedly lost the past 2 years.

NTU Fly half Potato, who has only won the Cup once since joining NTU almost three years ago, said:

"There is a lot of confidence in the team, but we are not over-confident and we definitely respect each of our opponents. NUS game will be difficult but, when you look at the way we are playing for each other, and the things we know we can achieve, it doesnt really matter who the opponents are anymore."

Meanwhile, Stormy Normy is convinced the sheer speed of SK's baby steps in defence will result in more penalty calls against team NTU.

The SMU game's REF accusations of SK being consistantly offside had brought a terse response from Stormy, who claimed the REF was 'naive'.

"His feet are so quick, sometimes you don't realise, so he is going to be penalise during certain moments in the game. It is one thing to be offside at the rucks as bodies are piling all over. But for the backs to illustrate such ill discipline...tsk. I think SK needs a ruler. Either that, or his floppy fringe has got to go, its affecting his vision and judgement."

With 1 match to his name already this season, SK has been one of the major inspirations behind NTU's drive for the title. Could his absence have been the key to NTU's struggles on the field during the pre-season, where the almighty No. 1 team in Boonlay has seldom sputtered beyond first gear.

And the good news for NTU is that he is likely to be around for some time yet. (3 or more years)

NTU's first foreign import in the likes of Zak the Pussy Canadian thoroughly enjoyed his first outing for what he claims is the finest University in Singapore.

"When I was warming up, the squeals of girls by the sidelines made me want to establish myself and show my worth. I guess this country is still warming up to the presence of Angmohs and in time to come, I would have the whole stadium chanting my name when I hunt down the whole back line and turnover the ball, just like the goold old days in Toronto."

SMU star Amos the Snubber believes NTU are the favourites to win the Cup this season.

After beating SMU in an impressive manner last saturday, the NUS outfit will now have to test themselves against Coach Tan's men, which Amos predicts will be very tough for team NUS.

The Snubber says: "It's going to be difficult to call. Once again, NUS will need to face NTU with the same spirit that saw them beat us(SMU). NTU are playing really exciting at the moment."

NTU Made to Work Hard in a Tale of Two Halves

Team NTU won an arm-wrestle and overcame a stern challenge from SMU during their opening inter-varsity clash with a 27-12 victory at SPE. The men in black were given one almighty scare during a resurgent SMU fight back in the second half before finally edging out with a hard fought win.

With the game kicking off at a frantic pace in the opening minutes, the Boon Lay Warriors started ominously, monopolising territory and constructing characteristic multi-phase build-up from the opening whistle.

NTU dictated the early exchanges but their attacking momentum was stifled by a committed SMU defence and a slew of ruck penalties favouring the opposition. The NTU forwards worked hard to lay a stable platform for their backline to attack but often find themselves at the receiving end of heavy penalties for infringing at the breakdown.

Despite some searching runs from the NTU backline, the SMU counterparts held strong in defence.

“We created enough opportunities, but we’re really disappointed with the amount of penalties going against our way,” skipper Kevin ‘Salsa King’ Ang told blogosphere reporters.

‘Catwalker’ ZZZ ensured the Boon Lay Warriors drew first blood in the match, scoring the opening try just under 10th minute. The try came off the back of committed mauling, with ZZZ diving his way over after collecting a loose ball.

A moment of brilliance from half-back Adam ‘Mat Solo’ Chan saw him stepping through the base of a ruck before dashing unopposed across the line for NTU’s second try in the 16th minute.

Team NTU continued to crank up the pressure and scored a third try against the run of play through KKK and fly-half Daniel ‘Potato’ Thiam extended the points with a drop goal just before the interval, making certain of a comfortable 22-0 lead going into halftime.

The second half saw a disastrous start for the Boon Lay Warriors as they were reduced to 14 men right from the start of kickoff after pack leader ‘Babyface Assassin’ Yik was sin-binned for an unintentional dangerous tackle.

Flowing rugby became a struggle with the reshuffling of players in the forward pack and the regular sound of the referee’s whistle further hampered as most breakdowns brought a penalty to one of the sides.

The referee particularly enjoyed the sound of SK’s number, frequently screaming out the NTU centre for straying offside throughout the match.

Gradually, SMU began to edge out and in the 56th minute they were rewarded when a foray into the NTU-22 saw a forward drive barreling over the line for their first try of the night.

It was a tough battle up front where neither side was able to gain a decisive upper hand but SMU showed they had more momentum going forward. With 12 minutes left on the clock, the lead was down to twelve as SMU scored through a counter-attack, displaying outstanding support play during the process.

Despite fading towards the end, ‘Potato’ Thiam pounced on opportunist pressure and picked up a loose ball to score against the run of play and put the match beyond doubt.

“We won the game, that’s all I’m asking for and we are very pleased about that,” said Coach Lincoln Tan.

On an abysmal second half from the forwards, Stormy Normy revealed, “We trained so well but we never took it on to the field in certain areas. We just didn’t gel, especially in the second half. We became anxious and probably didn’t hold our depth well enough.”

“In terms of the points, to be fair we don’t think the score line was a fair reflection of the second half we watched,” said SMU supporters.

Despite a strong all-round performance by SMU in the second half, they remain winless and bow out of contention after both rounds of the competition and the varsity champion will be determined between NTU and NUS as they go head to head in a title-decider next weekend.

NTU vs SMU: It Has Reached Boiling Point

The clash between NTU and SMU may be the juiciest contest between the two varsities with increasing tension dating back to 31st July 2006. This day, as most veteran Boon Lay Warriors would recall, is ‘The Day that Amos Snubs NTU for SMU’.

The final straw was drawn and the line crossed when an ugly case of varsity plagiarism surfaced after SMU’s triumph at the NUS Invitational Sevens tourney, rubbing salt into the wound of NTU players who gave their all in the finals.

This Thursday evening will see Team NTU take on the unpredictable SMU at SPE, in what promises to be a potentially fiery grudge match.

The rugby-blogosphere media has detailed at length the growing bad blood between both varsities fuelled further by Dezzo’s rumoured loan move to NTU following his ‘module bidding’ saga back in August last year.

However, the centre figure remains to be current SMU midfield maelstrom, Amos ‘The Man Who Snubbed NTU’ Siow, who incidentally will be leading the SMU backline.

“I consider myself a half-NTU man. It’s a pity that I have decided to snub NTU. They should get used to it. Now that I'm with SMU, I will do my best to get a victory for us. To my friends in NTU, I’m sorry but I have to be professional. I will get the job done this Thursday night,” revealed Amos ‘The Man Who Snubbed NTU’ Siow.

Kevin ‘Salsa King’ Ang has been deemed fit after passing his hamstring strength test and many believe he’s the man for the Boon Lay Warriors for this inter-university competition. However SK is taking it one game at a time.

“The opening match is the only thing I'm focusing on. I think as soon as you start putting your focus too far ahead, then you start losing that focus,” said SK.

Team NTU also welcomes back bruising frontrower Hairy Mal from injury and he will be handful for the SMU forwards.

But all eyes will be on Rebel Rong, who has seemingly added more players to the NTU injury list after a team run last evening (in case you were wondering, yes, players from his own team). Players on the receiving end included ‘Real Angmoh’ Zak with blazing stud marks over his neck and ‘Catwalker’ Tze, who suffered a chipped tooth after a head-on collision with Rebel Rong. Rong will no doubt be more than a handful off the bench, a decision made by Coach Lincoln Tan.

The Editors have recinded on their well deserved CNY break to bring our faithful readers a festive update. This is in violation to the blogging industry's unwritten code of ethics whereby Xiaxue, Mrbrown and Mr Miyagi all embark on a +/- 2weeks break to celebrate the beloved Chinese New Year. We appeal to all readers to enjoy this post in silence and do not refer this incident to the Blogosphere's Court-Room of Anti-holiday Posts (CRAP for short). It was however due to this surprise blogging session that the Editors unwittingly uncovered an unsuccessful attempt by an individual to hijack the blog. As federal investigations are currently undergoing, we are unable to provide you readers with a name. Be assured that when the dust settles, we will shame him in public.

The blog has lingered on with a demoralising title 'ACS(I) stuns NTU' for the past week and it is with strong objections coming from our overseas correspondent cum part time Voodoo Witch Doctor Makavaliace that has convinced us the Editors to provide an update. Makavaliace is not with us in Singapore as he is not really a big fan of CNY. But come the Mooncake festival, round little lotus paste-filled mooncakes will bring out the beast in him. He is said to be the pioneer of Mooncake Appreciation Society in Australia and actively organises eat-all-you-can mooncake buffets in campus, reliving his previous lifestyle in the NTU campus all over again.

Despite the pause in the preparations for the Tri-Uni games, Makavaliace urges all the NTU rugby faithful to never lose heart in a game. We have not been able to confirm the guest lists but expect to see the biggest names in the rugby scene gracing this event. ACS(I) Stuns NTU

Team NTU was cut to ribbons by an incisive ACS(I) outfit who looked a class apart in a 48-7 triumph.

It was a commendable performance from the schoolboys as they played the game with pace and precision while NTU was barely able to hang on to prevent an even bigger landslide. In a match that saw very little go right for Team NTU, a combination of handling errors and a shocking lack of urgency ensured they left the field exasperated.

At times, it was a traditional lesson in the ball beating the man. Other moments, it was a fury of commitment at rucks and mauls. All of it was a humbling learning lesson, and all but the dying minutes of it was comprehensive.

The tone of the match was set just after ten minutes when a well measured chip kick from the ACS(I) flyhalf saw his inside centre stepping through the defence to score untouched.

And only five minutes later, another instinctive chip-and-chase from the ACS(I) winger produced the second try for the schoolboys.

Team NTU edged their way back into territory and possession as the second quarter progressed. Yet even when they managed to string phases together, they were once again let down by handling errors. The boys were playing out of their skins and appeared to be far more confrontational in the breakdowns and contact situations.

The NTU forwards were lack-lustre and lethargic at times as they struggled at set-pieces and wilted under the lethal heat wave; and they were giving away far too much possession to pursue catch-up football. Fractured by the effort at set-pieces, their turnovers soared.

Woeful first-up tackling compounded by a failure to establish a territorial kicking game saw the Warriors put themselves under further unforced pressure.

Two further tries in the second quarter provided the schoolboys with a commanding lead going into the interval.

Team NTU started the third quarter brightly and pounded into the opposition territory with purpose. Just as the intensity and drive looks set to have returned, the Warriors frustrations only grew as they displayed poor ball security and an inability to sustain phases, committing a costly turnover with the line beckoning.

Midway through the third quarter, after several expansive phases, a neat break on the blind side by the ACS(I) skipper and outside centre found a gaping hole in defence; and he committed the last defender before flicking an inside pass for his inside centre to score under the bar.

Poor ball retention ensured the Warriors cough up turnovers instead of take their opportunities. Conversely, the schoolboys seemed content to sit on the ones they had already taken.

There were more snakes for NTU to swallow as a quick counter attack initiated from the ACS(I) fullback just inside his own half sparked off an outstanding try – the schoolboys with six players all having a touch before the winger scorching in beside the left corner flag.

Team NTU managed to salvage a well-earned try off five excellent forward phases before XP muscled over the line for a five pointer between the posts.

The rout ended with a final try from the schoolboys as they mauled off a textbook catch-and-drive from a 5m-lineout.

There was definitely no joy and the Warriors now have a huge task at hand to pick up the pieces.

NTU Seeking Fourth Straight Pre-season Victory

Team NTU will look to make it four wins from four in this year’s pre-season campaign when they face Anglo Chinese School at Dover Road this Saturday morning.

Coach Lincoln Tan is using what little he has and making the most with it, simple and successful. The NTU forwards were committed to their pick-and-go game plan and it sparked off several key phases in their victory over ACJC last week.

“We got our driving game going against ACJC, and from a performance point of view, we made some huge steps forward. But we need to be better and go up a gear, because it is a continuous challenge for ourselves. We cannot afford to slip up,” said Coach Tan.

Coach Tan has also played down concerns in the number of unforced turnovers in previous games.

“The whole team’s going to take a more direct and aggressive approach this weekend and it’s clear that we weren’t exactly satisfied with how we were in the contact area last week,” revealed veteran Ah ‘Tiong’ Kow.

“It’s just about the individual’s taking ownership of that area. You know collectively the understanding was there, it was just the lack of communication that let us down,” claimed Coach Tan.

Walking Wounded:

The Boon Lay Warriors had an injury scare for centre-fullback-utility-forward ZZZ but he has recovered sufficiently to remain in contention for the starting lineup.

There was little joy for Team NTU on the ‘Salsa King’ injury saga, as the self proclaimed ‘C1 Legend’ has struggled to recover from a hamstring strain that was proving to be more troublesome than first thought. He is joined on the injury list by ‘Hairy Mal’, who suffered a knee strain that would keep him out for an indefinite period.

ZZZ Fit and Ready to Go

Team NTU has acquired a welcome boost ahead of their fourth friendly match scheduled this Saturday. Classy centre-fullback-utility-forward ZZZ has received good news on his recent hamstring injury suffered during a furious training earlier last week.

ZZZ was considered only a half-chance at best earlier in the week but has since cast aside injury fears; and he is expected to be back for the clash with Anglo Chinese School this coming Saturday morning. ZZZ seemed headed for a lengthy spell on the sidelines when he pulled out from training following rigorous fitness drills.

“A scan last Monday confirmed a mild strain to ZZZ’s right hamstring. He has pulled his upper hamstring muscles and it was a second degree strain,” said resident Sinseh ‘Babyface Assassin’ Yik.

“However, he has responded well to treatment and my personal rub-downs. After reviewing the situation, he should be available for the friendly match this weekend,” revealed Yik.

“I know I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I have had enough rest and I am committed to be where I need to be,” claimed a zealous ZZZ.

Salsa King Injury Worse Than First Feared

A huge injury blow continues for Team NTU as they head into the closing stages of their pre-season campaign. With the opening match of the Inter-University Games looming, Kevin ‘Salsa King’ Ang has struggled to regain his fitness and won’t be making his expected return to action for this Saturday’s friendly outing against Anglo Chinese School.

Ang was battling rare, MULTIPLE hamstring injuries and missed the first three rounds of pre-season friendly matches, but close friend and teammate ZZZ says his injury is worse than first feared.

“Kevin is currently seeking treatment from a respected bomoh who frequently resides at the previous School of Physical Education (SPE aka CCAB). He may have found his niche in this new ALLURING rehabilitative process down at SPE,” claimed ZZZ.

"I haven't heard of any bomoh other than my personal high priest from India. Things seem rather complicated, but I do hope SK recovers from his injury and stop his GGTXX syndrome as well," revealed Stormy Normy.

"Whatever it works for him, I hope he returns to action soon. In any case, I'll work with the team we have right now," says Arjun 'Show It' Pandey.

NTU Notches Third Pre-season Win

Team NTU remained undefeated against a dogged and vastly improved ACJC side in their second meeting and looked to improve further on their arsenal within the next few weeks.

The first half was a sloppy affair with both teams succumbing to handling errors and poor-decisions. Neither team looked like threatening the line; though the Boon Lay Warriors enjoyed longer periods of possession, they were often let down by costly turnovers.

NTU dominated possession and territory with their successful pick-and-drive tactics and was surging forward with aggression and zest; however in contrast and despite so, ACJC brought a measured approach through a well-drilled defensive pattern and often benefited solely from the Warriors’ unforced turnovers.

Just after the first quarter of play, ACJC fly-half Sheik Mustafiq fielded an intended cross-field kick from his own 22 poorly but a fortuitous bounce and recovery from the winger James Wong stretched the NTU defence as he raced deep into the Warriors’ territory. Although the black defence gathered, ‘Mat Solo’ Adam was pinged for killing the ball at the ruck and a penalty try was awarded to the schoolboys.

Shortly after, ACJC added a second try through bizarre fashion against the run of play. A mixed-up within the maul just inside the NTU 22 resulted in an unexpected gift for ACJC inside centre Kenny Tan, who ran in untouched for a five-pointer, giving the schoolboys a 2-try advantage at halftime.

The second half saw a better performance and improved ball retention from NTU. The Warriors began to assert their dominance in possession with Peter ‘Fake Angmoh’ Walker’s support play an impressive feature.

Right from the on-start, a well worked catch-and-drive from a lineout just inside the ACJC 22 saw an effective pushover over the line but the forwards were rightly adjudged to have lost control of the ball before grounding it.

It was no mistake 10 minutes later when another well-worked lineout drive pinned the ACJC forwards on the back foot before Spencer sneaked across the line for NTU’s first try and reduced the deficit.

Daniel ‘Potato’ Thiam added two further tries to his pre-season tally with some strong running off deceiving backline moves for a comfortable lead going into the final quarter of the match.

‘Babyface Assassin’ Yik produced a strong display with consistent lineout throws and tenacious rush defence; and was equaled by a Man-of-the-Match performance from ‘Fake Angmoh’ Walker, whose work rate and support play impressed throughout the match.

Lao Ying added the final try off a well worked backline move to sum up an eventful outing for the Boon Lay Warriors and secured a third consecutive pre-season win.

Pre-season update - The Final Stretch

Besides the Thailand bombings that caused a blip in an otherwise wildly successful pre-season for the Boonlay warriors, recent victories over A Division rugby supremos SAJC and ACJC are further testament to the fact that NTU Rugby is all prepared and raring to go in their quest to bring back the Gold medal a few MRT stations down, from Clementi the past two years back to Boon Lay where everyone knows it rightfully belongs.

Team NTU Rugby veteran Stormy Normy has followed all the ups (from the stands) and downs (wearing the black jersey) of this team and has admitted that he is fed up from this rollercoaster ride where NTU has been on a perpetual free fall the past two years. A promising team that threatens to never fulfill their own, as well as pundits and the nation's lofty ambitions on them, this may well be the best year for them to lay claim on the one trophy that seperates the boys and the men, in a school setting. Many believe that although NUS and SMU got the bumper crop of all the big names of freshman players, Team NTU is actually more balanced a team than compared to previous years. They have got experience at every position and are guided by a very passionate Coach Tan who regularly hangs out on the Ayer Rajah Expressway between the Clementi and Clementi Ave 6 exits these days with his trusty old sidekick Rebel Rong and a pair of seasoned binoculars.

Despite the air of quiet confidence that flows along with the aroma of cocoa beans in Nanyang Ave, some factions of the team are not leaving this year's tournament to chance. Danny H has taken to putting on shit loads of bulk just so he can hit the Fly-half harder. SK has also quit salsa in a bid to restore his vulnerable hamstrings to their prime. Potato Thiam has also taken to chatting up random female physios, appealing to their maternal instincts to cover the team for free.

Above all, Stormy Normy has also engaged a high priest from India to bless the team and give them good luck for the tournament. However, in a multi-racial setting, this move did not go down well with certain factions of the team.

"If he can hire an Indian priest to bless the team, I should be allowed a bomoh to cure my drop ball habits! Who does he think he is, doing things without even consulting the team." Mat Solo Chan was very defensive when interviewed.

"Well, it was a move originating from good intentions. I only mean the team well. In fact, the Hall 4 Cheerleading team hired the Indian priest's services and he served them well. The rave reviews convinced me to give him a shot and maybe, maybe, he can also make our forwards score!" shrugged Stormy.

"I do not wish for any friction in my team. Whatever it is, I hope that things are settled amicably. I will try to resolve any situation. In fact, there is nothing I wouldnt try. I don't mind trying an Indian priest though, maybe Mitran and me can do him the servicing this time round." A happy 'Show it' Pandey wobbling infront of our camera commented, one hand with a whiskey bottle, the other hand showing it.

However, despite the recent victories over the power houses of JC rugby, Coach Tan is unhappy with the workrate of the team.

"I am not happy with the level of fitness we are at right now. After reviewing the match video for the 10th time, i can see that we are not hitting our potential yet. Not to worry, the next training we will sort this out." said Tan

NTU Downs ACJC

Team NTU continued preparations for its Inter-University campaign and completed its second pre-season match in positive style with a 14-5 win over a youthful and spirited ACJC side, who played with desire but fell down in its execution of finer points of its game.

Head Coach Lincoln Tan (who was sporting a trendy baby-blue polo T) gave starting debuts to a host of Boon Lay Warriors’ promising talents and tinkered with the starting lineup, confirming moves to a more expansive game-plan that should see them prosper against future tougher opponents.

The rotation policy was put to a stern test with ‘Mat Solo’ Adam taking the helm at fly-half for the opening exchanges of the game.

In blustery, chilly conditions, the debutants were keen to impress and the early commitment and passion showed. The early anxiety from the forwards was inevitable, but they soon settled their nerves and started to piece together some effective rucks and mauls. However, the early lineout play was disappointing with poor throwing resulting in several costly turnovers. The presence of ‘Babyface Assassin’ Yik was sorely missed as he was away due to compassionate reasons.

The backs were unable to put the finishing touches to several areas of their play and prospective chances went begging, especially after some fine line-breaks by ‘Zeus’ Tze; and strong running from wingers Andy ‘No Show’ Prakasa and Khim Hock.

Starting full-back ‘Lao Ying’ was given a tough assignment as he was made to multi-task throughout the match, following a concurrent personal tutorial enforced by Coach Tan.

NTU lost their way during a costly five minutes before half-time; a lapse in defence allowing ACJC to make full use of numbers out wide to score the opening try of the match at the corner. A misdirected conversion attempt left the schoolboys with a slim lead going into the interval.

A 0-5 score line at the break left the three ardent supporters (Kiat, Sebastian and Jed) rightfully expecting more.

‘Tinkerman’ Coach Tan introduced changes to the lineup and the second stanza started in a frantic fashion as a fresh mix of players took on the field.

While the Warriors’ effort became a little ragged towards the end of the first-half, the introduction of bench players infused more control and resulted in a fine, and deserved, try to centre ‘Undroppable’ Qing who snatched an opportunist try as he pounced on a loose ball over the line for a five-pointer just after the break.

Daniel ‘Potato’ Thiam was proficient with his ‘Niao Niao’ kicks and looked content to plug the corners, turning the opposition around.

Winger Emery Ong nearly stole the game with the play of the day after using his pace to step past his opposite number and surged 60m down the flank, but was unfortunately stopped by an enthusiastic cover defence.

‘Mat Solo’ Adam added a second try after peeling off an excellent backline move and rounded off a 30m break by barging over the line just under the posts; the try having its origins off commendable forward phases.

With ten minutes remaining, forward-specialist player-coach, Rebel Rong was brought for his debut since his transfer to NTU seven months ago. He marked his presence with barnstorming, individualistic runs that had Coach Tan shaking his head in unease; with rumours of Coach Tan’s earlier refusal to play Rebel Rong in his dream position at fullback.

The NTU SELECTORS cannot be more pleased with another fruitful outing and are looking for sterner tests in the near future.

NTU Edges Out SAJC in First Pre-season Outing

NTU started their 2007 pre-season campaign with a neat 12-0 win over an ever-sporting SAJC team at Potong Pasir last evening.

Although Head Coach Lincoln Tan was looking on the bright side after guiding the Boon Lay Warriors to their first win under his helm, he certainly wasn’t reading anything too much into last evening’s victory. Coach Tan’s mind was more focused on the improvements and adjustments he would be making during the next training after declaring himself satisfied with yesterday’s game.

“It was a good hit-out, we wanted to have a look at some combinations and some of the new players, and obviously everything is still building up for the Warriors,” Coach Tan said.

“It’s about trying things so that we can pick it to pieces later, analyse it and make changes,” Tan said.

Coach Tan gave each of his troops at least 20 minutes on the paddock and was most pleased by the efforts of back-rower ‘Tiger Slayer’ Alvin.

“Alvin had a solid game, he still has a bit to learn but he’s getting there,” Coach Tan said.

The delay in transportation, torrid weather and pungent pitch probably played a part in leading to the sluggish start, with NTU stuck in first gear for the early part of the match.

It wasn’t hard to tell that the match was the first of the year, as the Warriors struggled to find any momentum on attack during the opening exchanges.

The Saints forwards showed commitment at breakdown situations and displayed a tenacious effort in stopping larger juggernauts in ‘Hairy Mal’ and skipper Arjun ‘Show It’ Pandey. Their inside backs were equally a standout in defence, thwarting several breaking efforts from ‘Potato’ Thiam and ‘Mat Solo’ Adam. Despite launching decent waves of attack, the Warriors were unable to penetrate a well-organised blanket defence.

The early urgency was lacking and attacking moves were riddled with handling errors throughout the match. The first half ended in a stalemate, with the men in black marginally the better team, their physicality and experience making a telling difference.

However, the pace and skill picked up slightly in the second half. Positives for the Warriors included a solid forward effort, setting the platform for the backs to capitalise with more precision on a phase switch, with Thiam sending ‘Lao Ying’ diving over the line for his debut try of the season and his first for NTU.

NTU finally ran away with the opening pre-season encounter in the last 10 minutes by scoring the second unanswered try. A break by ‘Mat Solo’ Adam off a well worked backline move led to 'Amino Acid' Ash muscling over the line for a five pointer.

“It was nice to win, but certainly we’re looking more at patterns, combinations and individuals,” said forward-specialist player-coach, Rebel Rong.

When asked about his decision to sit out of the pre-season opener, Rebel Rong revealed, “There’s no point for me to hurt these kids. They are just school boys. Even though I’m DAMN good, I’m not going out there to destroy young boys. I’m saving everything for the actual IVP.”

The NTU SELECTORS were pleased with a wining start to the pre-season and the rotation policy that enables playing time and exposure for everyone.

“We can confirm that further matches are in arrangement to ensure this continuity and preparations for the upcoming IVP,” said the NTU SELECTORS.

'Niao niao' Pte Ltd will be an Official Sponsor of the warriors with rights to associate with the team worldwide, as well as being naming rights sponsor for the Feb Test Series with SMU, NUS and UWC, which will now be known as the Inter-Varsity Cup.

“This new sponsorship agreement demonstrates the global interest in, and support for, the NTU Boon Lay Warriors and the strength of the its brand globally,” said Capt Arjun 'Show it'.

NTU coach Lincoln Tan and AWESOME Kiat were also in attendance for the launch event which was attended by engineers, business students and the media from NTU.

Rugby-net: Friendly Match Preview

After a terribly long period of rugby drought, the Rugbynet reporters are finally back in action!
In less than 24 hours time, a group of boys from the far west of Singapore will once again put on the BLACK jersey for the first time this year and play their first ever 15-a-side match together at St Andrew's Junior College at 1730hrs (GMT +0800 ).

The match will see our boys pit their skills against a youthful SAJC side which just recently won the 'A' Division. Although it is predicted by local bookmakers that it will be a tough match for the boys in black, NTU is looking rather comfortable and going into this match brimming with confidence.

Our Rugbynet reporters were present to cover NTU's public training session this afternoon. In the light drizzle coupled with a few lightning flashes, about 30 players were present along with both coaches.
Forwards displayed solid, explosive hits, doing rucks, muals, lineouts and scrums while the backs impressed the crowd with precise execution of every move from the play book. The NTU selectors who were present also agreed that the Team is looking very good at this moment.

An additional highlight to the match will be the unveiling of all the new signings made over the summer after completing the trials back in September last year. Gaybriel loi, "Catwalker" Tze,"Eyes Shut" Kim Hock, "Lao Ying", "Fake Ang moh" Walker are some of the starlets who will be given a chance to display their talents tomorrow.

Furthermore, this fixture will be a trip down memory lane for some of the boys who were previously from the opposition's team before they made the switch to the west side. The oldest amongst them, Daniel 'Potato' Thiam commented,

" I wanna hear the crowd chanting my name again"

Together with him was "Salsa King" Kevin Ang who unfortunately will not be playing in tomorrow's fixture as he was unable to pass to late fitness test for his pulled hamstring (the other hamstring).

Coach Tan was hesitant to provide his own predictions for tomorrow's outcome during the short press conference.

Coach Tan: "I saw them train during the week, i think we have a good chance of beating them."

Rugbynet Reporter: "You mean you went and watch them train? Isn't that unethical?"

Coach Tan: "No lah, i was just driving down the road and i managed to watch them practice their lineouts, scrums, team runs and fitness drills."

NTU Rugby – Functioning as an Independent Club

During the last couple of months, there has been a growing concern whether NTU will continue to provide financial and administrative support for its rugby team. However, after numerous heated discussions with the Sports department, the request for financial funding has come to an end and it came as no big surprise as Mr. Y does not view the sport of any great importance. NTU rugby management team has decided that it is time that the Boon Lay Warriors sever ties with NTU Sports & Recreation Club and be run as a totally independent entity.

The onus is now on the players to rise up to the occasion and train hard and perform well in the upcoming IVP. Every player now needs to understand that winning the championship is not entirely for the bragging rights or the glory but more of being able to overcome the challenges smacked onto our faces and come up tops against our rivals. It is a test of passion and commitment. A test of how far the team has galvanized together. A test of the camaraderie among the players.

It may be tough for some players who felt that they got no support from the school and our efforts are not recognized by people outside the team. But do think again. Right from the moment everyone of us began training with the team, be it last year or a few years ago, it is already a known fact that we are playing for the people whom we trained with and nothing else. As part of the Boon Lay Warriors, besides the love for the game, it is the strong team spirit that we are immersed in which motivated us to go for trainings and give our all during each session.

An appeal to all players. If you still do not have this kind of mentality and attitude towards playing rugby in NTU, please feel free to ask your teammates around you during dinner and I can be sure that most of us share the same sentiments.

An update on further plans to the team in the near future. Boon Lay Warriors is currently negotiating with several prominent clubs in the National Rugby Championship to have an alliance plan to further pit our skills in competitions. This will be a tremendous opportunity to compete apart from the IVP. This is part of our expansion plan to further reinstate our position in the local rugby scene and hopefully in the near future, Boon Lay Warriors will become a club for youngsters to look forward to playing for.

E: Hello there ah neh!Shouldn't you be hiding from the sun?
P: Hey there editors!Its stereotype to say indians can't sun tan. Peter Walker should not be the only one with the license!!Its like saying SK will get an injury every week, that Kim Hock will confirm close his eyes during every run and every tackle, that Gaybriel will not give up on a chance to grope his team mates.....

E: Hey chill Praga, that was just an ice breaker...So after these few months, how do you feel about this team, considering your penchant for skipping training once every week?
P: Well I get along nicely with everyone, just that Gaybriel seems a little afraid of me. Every day is very rejuvenating for me and I feel like I am learning more about everyone everyday!

E: So now you are slowly breaking the racial barrier and entering the inner circle, have u come across any rumours or gossips that you would like to share with the readers of this NTURugbynews?
P: Well, this may come as shocking but I was queueing up at the Canteen 1 Indian food stall waiting to buy my favourite papadem, when I overheard Danny H speaking loudly to SK and Elite Model Tze. Unveiling of New Sponsorship

The management team of NTU Rugby would like to proudly reveal a new and exciting sponsorship with Osim that will pave the way for years of success for this Made In Boonlay team. Widely believed to be a first of its kind, a proud reception and press conference was launched. NtuRugbyNews editors were invited to be the official blogsite for this proud event.

The sponsorship terms will see NTU Rugby receiving sets of the revolutionary iSqueez to relieve the players from sore feet and calves from their intensive pre-season training. Osim is excited to be linked with such an illustrious team with a rich tradition and believes that the sponsorship will benefit both parties in more ways than one. For NTU Rugby, it is a step further in taking care of their player's legs. The NTU rugby field has been blessed with spa-quality mud that finds its way onto the player's legs every training, and it is this mud that has seen all its players maintaining legs as smooth as a baby's buttocks despite the rigours of training.

Arjun 'Show it' Pandey was indeed excited by this piece of news. However, he was more excited about spending 2007 with an unidentified Joyce (by unidentified, it means age, height, weight sex, and of course sexual preference). Hence, Stormy Normy, Awesome Kiat, Undroppable Qing, Potato and Aminurashid 'runs faster than you can say his name' and Miss Chan from the ladies touch rugby team was sent to grace the event.

The players were on hand to demonstrate the use of the iSqueez, answer any queries fielded by the public and press, as well as to conduct an hour long autograph session. To top it off, the team was distributing free Dunkin Donuts to the kids around the area. The public was certainly impressed by the team's attitude and wish them all the best in their upcoming tournament.

Dynamic pair chase tries

Stormy Normy and 'Bryanboy' Yik have firmly established themselves as one of the Inter-uni’s best front row partnerships. But the pair are adamant their duties don’t end at scrumaging opposition.

The pair are aiming to aid Boonlay warrior's tries tally even further having already contributed 2 tries between them last season.

“I think we need to score more tries,” Stormy told Inside NTU. “If the team is going to be successful we can’t just expect Potato, SK and Mat Solo to score every time. We need people chipping in all over the pitch.

"From lineouts, [the forwards] need to make sure we are causing problems for the opposition and hopefully scoring tries.”

“It’s good for confidence if you score in a game because it can help your performance,” revealed the Hall 1 veteran. “But first we have to concentrate on protecting the our scrums, lineouts and most importantly, our try area. As long as you keep a zero in the opposition’s scoreline you’ve had a good day.”

e-Rugby - Latest transfer rumour

With the opening of the January transfer window, many names have been linked with the famous Blacks from Boon lay playing temporarily under the name of Boonlay warriors Rugby Football club. Of all the fervent speculation surrounding this illustrious team, e-Rugby has picked up on a most reliable thread, involving NTU's previous bad boy cum alumnus Ah Lan Jiao.

Ah Lan Jiao was previously known as Allan Ong, a pedigree from ACJC's famed academy of rugby players. He enjoyed 3 solid years of fun in NTU, but strangely all sorts of strange reasons hindered the progress of this used to be starlet. Playing for an illustrious team such as NTU guarantees a truckload of trophies, as they used to say. However, Ah Lan Jiao strangely only has one Inter-Hall Gold medal and one IVP silver medal to show for his hard work.

Ah Lan Jiao was well liked by his peers, and given his uncanny resemblance of the american bald eagle, has found himself with an unsheddable new tag and nickname, Ah Lan Jiao.

Although the recent BKK trip was cancelled abruptly, our editors managed to stumble upon a crumpled up team list while scavenging through the rubbish from the rugby office. A certain Allan Ong's name was listed as the captain's room mate. If this list is to be trusted, Ah Lan Jiao may just be the very myrtar that Coach Tan has in mind to rescue whatever is left of the Boonlay warrior's season.

Our 24hour espionage team's efforts on trailing Ah Lan Jiao has also paid off. He was spotted at NIE astro turf pitch on a tuesday public holiday training with the team. It looks as though he is eager to make up for lost time, having only completed one season out of a possible 3 during his last stint with the Blacks.

Whatever Coach Tan has in mind, his plans are definitely big, given the veil of secrecy surrounding the recent happenings. What the editors can say is to stay tuned for the upcoming press conference, whenever it is. It may just take you by storm.

SK out for two weeks

SK could be out for a fortnight after suffering a hamstring injury during the Inter School Touch Competition against NIE.

SK captained the Business School to a 2-2 only to lose the game in sudden death, but SK was forced off after 5 mins of the clash at Boon Lay pitch.

The NTU boss confirmed: "It's a hamstring injury, so it could be a couple of weeks. But, who knows? We will assess it properly. SK will go thru' a pain test conducted by Germaine, who is rumored to be NTU next physio."

"The timing of it [during the match] was unfortunate for NBS, but I thought Gaybriel did well when he came on."

"My team lost because i'm out so early in the game. They seems to lost that fighting spirit. I know i am important to them, i apologise for my injury." said SK.

"It was a freak accident. I was thru the gap running towards the try area. A NIE girl was in my way, so i decided to side-step her. Unfortunately, i heard a 'pop' sound in my hammy. I knew its a tear immediately. BUT i still manage to get over the try-line for the points."

Fortunately, the blacks have Andy Prakasa back to full fitness and the arrival of Rebel Rong, who is elligible to make his debut in the Tri-Uni Cup against SMU and NUS this season, is a timely signing.

e-rugby: Lao Ying eager for debut

Lao Ying cannot wait to make his NTU debut, but he will have to wait a few more days to pull on the black shirt.

The lengthy fly half, who joins NTU last july, had hoped to be in action for the blacks for the first time against Thai Uni on New Year's Day. But, due to the cancellation of the Thailand Tri-nation cup, he will have to wait longer.

"Although I will be with NTU from the start of January, there are no games at the moment. But the sooner I can play the better," he said.

"At the moment I have no idea when I will get a chance to play, but obviously I just want to be in the best possible shape so that I can respond whenever I am called upon. I come from a proud heritage of Chinese High and HCJC. With SK constantly out of the picture, I guess it is up to me to pick up the gauntlets and prove to everyone that the boys in shorts can play rugby too!"

The former HCJC and Chinese High star has already become acquainted with his new team-mates, having trained at Boon Lay for a week before Christmas. He was impressed with the warm welcome and NTU's impressive facilities.

"I had a really good reception from the NTU players when I arrived," he wrote on his official website, www.laoying_thecondorhero.com. "They seem like a good bunch of lads and it was very exciting."

Post NTU Rugby Bangkok Trip Review...???

With the editors sloshed from alcohol due to the ushering of the new year, the scheduled NTU Rugby trip to Bangkok for the South East Asian Tri-nations competition seemed to have come and gone, without anything eventful having taken place. That is all before we received a knock on our heads by the Chief editor to remind us that the trip has been rightfully cancelled due to the numerous bomb blasts that occured in various parts of Bangkok. What a way to kickstart the new year with several industrial strength fireworks!

As the team remain disappointed for having such a hugely anticipated trip cut short, the editors have been quick to pick up on some leads and sussed out some highly plausible conspiracy theories that has emerged. Of all, the editors have published two of the most likely theories for public debate:

1. The bombs were put in place by the recently mentioned Mr Y. It was said that he learnt of the distribution of oversized Polo Tshirts to the team for their trip, and he spent his New Year's eve igniting those several bombs so as to stop the team for making the trip, thus recovering the shirts and giving them back to the Dragonboat boys to wipe dry their oars after training to prevent algae and fungus on growing on their sticks. Mr Y could not be contacted for comments, however his wife divulged that he has locked himself in the basement to carve out a majestic looking dragon head to adorn his newly purchased car. Mr Y's extra huge bonus comes as no surprise as Rugby is not the only sport to have had their budget cut.

2. NUS and SMU has been following up on the electrifying progress of our young starlets (minus SK) through his wildly successful blog. They have determined that NTU is indeed a big threat to their title ambitions for the coming year. Unconfirmed reports said that NUS School of Chemistry and Ballistic Science developed at least one of the six bombs used and SMU's School of Finance sanctioned the funds to put the bombs in place. NTU's School of DOS (Denial of Service) and Intellectual Property theft stumbled upon this plot while monitoring the rival school's public servers and email systems. With the help of the India Professors from School of Computing, they managed to upload the millenium virus into the bombs and caused them to explode on New Year's eve, instead of 3rd Jan where the team was scheduled to land.

Whatever u readers may believe, it is a reality that the trip has been cut short until further notice. However, the spirit of the team is still not dampened. Andy Prakarsa is still adamant on pushing his single bed together with SK and he may be making a mid-IHG season transfer to Hall 1 just to be SK's sleeping partner. Whatever weird news you hear, these boys are still very much part of the team and may our Muslim brothers in the holy land of Mecca now pray for these lost souls and bring back their innocence.

A message from Capt 'Show It'

Hi guys,
a very Happy New Year to all.However, it isnt a very good new
year to kick off with whatever that is happening in thailand.We have decided
to postphone the trip to a later date due to the bomb attacks in bangkok.

It is not possible to refund airfare cost. But we will travel on a later
date at the same airfare price without extra costs. This can only be done
once. This is what i got from tiger airways.Those who are not convinced pls
call tiger hotline at 65384437 and talk to the operator.

I will return you guys the accomodation money which will probably be 90-
100 dollars in the coming weeks.

I really cannot compromise on safety regarding this issue after noting the
incident that took place with SCC players who went up to BALI. It is not
possible for me to take any chances.

Some of us have planned this trip since June and it has taken 6 long months
and lots of trouble to finally make it happen. We had lots of problems and
and research to sort out with this trip before we could eventually come to
this point.

I apologise if i may not be able to give you back the full payment because i
hope u understand that some money has already been spent on items like
tapes, bandages sprays and cancellation fines and stuff.I will try to return
as much as i can and will not hold any funds back.

The next scheduled flight is on may 8th 2007 to may 12th 2007.

Training is on tomorrow at 4 oclock at NIE, hockey pitch. Fitness, circuit drills

NTU Rugby South East Asian Tri-Nations Tour

Amidst all the recent uncertainties enveloping the team, a certain positive has emerged in the form of a Bangkok trip taking place from 3rd to 7th Jan. This is definitely a big step forward for the starlets of the team who are going to get a first taste of real varsity 15s rugby compared to the curtain raiser carnival like 7s tournament earlier in the year. For the seniors, its a testament of their hard work paying off for their incessant lobbying for the team to carry on as a priority with the school administration.

Unconfirmed reports has it that the school is planning to distribute stocks of oversized Polo Tshirts for the travelling team up to Bangkok. It was initially earmarked for the Dragon boaters who were expected to bulk up massively due to their new $40k training regime. However, after many months, the NTU Rugby boys remain the only ones in school capable of filling out the XXXL shirts. Whatever it is, a big thank you to the school.

The editors are really fortunate to catch up with a few from the travelling team to share their sentiments. Here is what they have to say;

'I am relishing the chance of sharing rooms with Salsa King as I've heard alot abt his moves, both on and off the dance floor. In Bali, we're used to pushing two single beds together, more room for maneuvure la..I did it in hall and I'm planning to do it in bangkok, then I'll be literally banging cocks!!haha" Prakarsa said with a sly smile creeping up his face.

' With me and Stormy rooming together, you can be sure the guys will be up to no monkey business in Thailand. We are the Bouncers of the trip and we'll make sure we keep everybody in check with our no nonsense attitude." Azuan said with an air of authority.

'As the captain of the team, I should be rooming with Coach Tan. But as we all know Coach Tan is married and definitely straight, I would rather take the chance and go for someone else who's more, I would say open to experiments, someone like Ah Lan Jiao. Its not everyday we get to go Bangkok and I do not wanna waste the trip. Its not always about rugby." Arjun replied, his eyes never leaving the catalogue for Thailand's famed Ladyboys.

This trip is a good chance for the NTU boys to bond in more ways than one. With 30 of them touring, it can be expected that lots of fun will result out of this. E-rugby has commited a team of roving reporters to follow this squad up to Thailand and you fans can be assured of a detailed reporting when the tour ends. Project 'War Machine'

As some of you in the circle may know, the renowned Salsa King of NTU and Singapore, Kevin Ang has abashedly proclaimed his desire to whip himself into shape, turning himself into a War machine during the holidays. Now that we are into the final week of the holidays, let us take a look at how this ex- SAJC captain, most (maybe only) famous for his fearsome C1 crashes, is squaring up under intense scrutiny by the media.

Few months back, Gaybriel was kind enough to sacrifice the stretching of his anal walls, in exchange for the gym instructor putting Kevin Ang onto the priority list of NTU's Planet Fitness. Till date, the book in/book out book has still yet to register the famed signature of our SK. Perhaps he is wary of working out in public areas, for fear of the NUS and SMU spies that are constantly around. He even sat himself in a salon and booked himself a 5-hour package for his hair to be straightened to look like Jay Chou in his latest movie.

"If I look like Zhou Jie Lun, nobody will realise i am SK!" he explained simply.

During the recently concluded Inter School Touch Rugby Championship, SK, who was leading team NBS, arrogantly predicted that with the talent of Tze the Pageant faithful, Undroppable Qing, Stormy Normy and Matchstick Hoe, it will be impossible not to win the gold. Of course, everything went according to plan, until he realised that statistically wise, he hasnt contributed anything for the team. With anxiety building up, he took on a tiny girl half his size, side stepped her and dived for the tryline. He would have gotten up and gave her the "suck it" sign but he was in too much pain having pulled his hamstring executing such an effortless move.

According to the world class doctors in Football Manager 07, a pulled hamstring requires lots of stretching and a minimum of 2 weeks of rest. Looks like SK's season is over before it even started. He is set to miss out on the South East Asian Tri-nations held from 3-7 Jan and is probably going up to BKK just to get some shopping bags and clothes to fit his Jay Chou image.

The career path of this young starlet looks suspiciously like a recent graduant from the team, Allan Ong, more fondly known as Ah Lan Jiao. He too was plagued by injuries and only managed his debut for NTU in his final season, but that is another story altogether.

If you have the love for sports or the innate desire to be a sportsman, then you should continue reading this article. My written contribution to the Nanyang Tribune is no less than a sounding call for all NTU students to fully appreciate the current plight that the NTU rugby team is undergoing. Make no mistake that this article is written with the intent of seeking undue sympathy from all sectors of the Nanyang Community but rather a well-grounded perspective of a varsity sportsman playing a game otherwise known as “the gentlemen’s game”.

Rugby is often associated with rough knocks, thumping tackles and whatever adjectives that are conveniently connoted with VIOLENCE and PAIN. Sure, we do put in the hard tackles and endure 80mins of pain (mind you, much of the pain stems from the fear of losing, if any) through every match. Every piece of action is accompanied by its rationale and that is, simply: to protect our brothers on the field. I’m not exactly your layman well-buffed, macho rugby player that struts around your resident Nanyang gym and occasionally look into my reflection to admire the veins popping out of my biceps. I’m 70 kilos of fat and meat. I’m just your average joe and in fact, I do suffer the rigors of playing rugby overtime especially when I’m not well-built enough for the game. Altruism or an excessive thirst for aggression would be a probable thought popping up on your minds right now.

My point is, NTU Rugby isn’t about whatever ill-conceived misconceptions that your hall seniors have been telling you about. Rugby manifests NTU players’ passion for sports. We love our game, to the extent that the team has set up a blog to instill a sense of communal bonding within the team or even lending a hand at teaching Inter-Hall Rugby newbies the finer pointers of this wonderful game. The game bonds players from all walks of life through every pass, kick and run that the team executes in style. Rugby has seen such a strong following in campus over the years that almost all the 16 halls in NTU were seen training intensively for the much anticipated inter-hall rugby tournament in December.

The interest in the game has garnered support from several sectors of the campus population over the years. What is surprising though is that the school department overseeing the NTU rugby team has refused to acknowledge the welfare of its players. It seems that Rugby’s current status as a non-core sport is a well-justified reason for its limited funding. From their point of view, the fact that our annual competition consists of only 3 universities has reduced the significance of the game and thus a lower priority for support. Core sports such as Dragonboating and Soccer has their prestigious tournaments, namely the PM Cup and the SR Nathan Cup. It is therefore understandable for the school to plough $20k into the development of these sports. Mindful of our less than illustrious tournament now that the age old IVP has been scrapped, NTU Rugby has been lobbying for the continued support of the SRC to provide us with basic amenities like priority of field and subsidies for jerseys and coach, only to be rejected time and again. Mind you, working with a low budget annually for the past couple of years has earned us the top 2 positions in the previous Inter-Varsity-Polytechnic tournaments ever since their inception. Over the years and currently still, the team is still adorned by many outstanding National and previous age-group players eager to do their part to bring glory to their school NTU. Why is it that time and again the players are denied the opportunity to showcase their obvious talent and establish their status as the powerhouse of the country?

The team is unfazed by the recent decision of the school authorities to withdraw totally their financial support to Rugby. Such is the character of the NTU rugby team that we will prevail and toil in the field, be it rain or shine. Our coach comes down free-of-charge for every training session to align our efforts to his strategy and to ensure that our competitive fitness is well nurtured. NTU seeks to strive as a World-class University with state of the art facilities. Everyone student pays $12.50 per annum to utilize the benefits of the Sports & Recreational Centre. The 30 NTU rugby players would be delighted to have their well-deserved $40.00 each to pay for our logistics, as has always been the case in previous years. Would the $1200 requested be too much a price to pay for success? Or is winning the PM Cup and SR Nathan cup the sole benchmarks of success for NTU? I beg to differ.

Ah Lian: Wingers find it hard

NTU legend Ah Lian feels the NTU wingers find it hard to accept having quiet periods in games.

For example, Wingers play a key role in Bedok Kings topping the Premiership table in Oct.

Now in their 2nd campaign at NTU, the wingers are steadily maturing, with Ah Lian full of admiration for their talents.

Wingers like ASH, won the 'Most Improved Player' at SRC, and Emery 'sub 10' ong leading SRC's all time top try scorer record.

But the experienced niao niao Lian has pinpointed areas of their game that still require improvement before they can become fully attuned to NTU's style of play.

"The 2 wingers can do things that no other player can do," said Lian in an interview in the NTU Opus.

"Now they need to learn how to play that position right because the way NTU play, as a winger you need to work hard and get into all the right positions."

"When I came into the team I used to sprint back to help the full-back, but that had been drilled into me from my days in Saints."

"ASH and EM never grew up with that."

"It's hard for them, I think, because they want the ball all the time."

"Sometimes, as a winger, you don't touch the ball for five minutes and you have to rely on others to give it to you - and that's hard for him."

"They should get involve all the time, they have the abilities to create problems for oppositions."

e-rugby: Funding issues

NTU new manager Mr. Y has warned fans he will not be spending money on Team NTU for the upcoming rugby season.

Although Mr. Y's hand was strengthened this week with the news the club are to raise $20k towards dragon boating, $0 will be spent on the rugby team.

The cash is not just for subsiding least popular sports like rugby as Y said: "We've not got masses of money, Dragonboat asked for $40k, but i can only give them $20k, soccer, hockey and other sports are also asking for money. I guess the rugby team is on their own for now."

"What we're talking about include jerseys and coaching fees, so let's not kid ourselves we cannot afford spend even $1 on a player. BUT dragonboaters and soccer players are different."

"When I spoke to Arjun 'Show it' Pandey a couple of weeks ago he was very positive. He been really really nice thru'out our meetings. I really hope i can help him, but sorry... no money at the moment."

When interviewed about this story, Arjun has this to say: " I tried everything lar, been sucking up to him already. He is an ass lar."

Team NTU are travelling to Thailand on the 3rd of Jan to take part in the Thailand Cup invitational challenge shield. Although they are not sponsored for this trip, the players are more than willling to pay for their own expenses.

"We got the passion for rugby. We are going to play. Mr. Y can just sit in his office and rot. I don't give a shit." said a player who refused to be named.

NTU are hoping that Team SMU and NUS can come together and organise a competition next year. However, they are uncontactable for any comments regarding this.

This letter apparantly won a UK Complaint Letter Competition, in UK. Its quite an enjoyable read. Just for laughs I would say.

Dear Cretins,

I have been an NTL customer since 9th July 2001, when I signed up for your 3-in-one deal for cable TV, cable modem, and telephone. During this three-month period I have encountered inadequacy of service which I had not previously considered possible, as well as ignorance and stupidity of monolithic proportions.

Please allow me to provide specific details, so that you can either pursue your professional perogative, and seek to rectify these difficulties - or more likely (I suspect) so that you can have some entertaining reading material as you while away the working day smoking B&H and drinking vendor-coffee on the bog in your office:

My initial installation was cancelled without warning, resulting in my spending an entire Saturday sitting on my fat arse waiting for your technician to arrive. When he did not arrive, I spent a further 57 minutes listening to your infuriating hold music, and the even more annoying Scottish robot woman telling me to look at your helpful website....HOW?

I alleviated the boredom by playing with my testicles for a few minutes - an activity at which you are no-doubt both familiar and highly adept. The rescheduled installation then took place some two weeks later, although the technician did forget to bring a number of vital tools - such as a drill-bit, and his cerebrum. Two weeks later, my cable modem had still not arrived. After 15 telephone calls over 4 weeks my modem arrived... six weeks after I had requested it, and begun to pay for it. I estimate your internet server's downtime is roughly 35%... hours between about 6pm -midnight, Mon-Fri, and most of the weekend.

I am still waiting for my telephone connection. I have made 9 calls on my mobile to your no-help line, and have been unhelpfully transferred to a variety of disinterested individuals, who are it seems also highly skilled bollock jugglers. I have been informed that a telephone line is available (and someone will call me back); that no telephone line is available (and someone will call me back); that I will be transferred to someone who knows whether or not a telephone line is available (and then been cut off); that I will be transferred to someone (and then been redirected to an answer machine informing me that your office is closed); that I will be transferred to someone and then been redirected to the irritating Scottish robot woman...and several other variations on this theme.

Doubtless you are no longer reading this letter, as you have at least a thousand other dissatisfied customers to ignore, and also another one of those crucially important testicle-moments to attend to. Frankly I don't care, it's far more satisfying as a customer to voice my frustration's in print than to shout them at your unending hold music. Forgive me, therefore, if I continue. How surprised I therefore was, when I discovered to my considerable dissatisfaction and disappointment what a useless shower of bastards you truly are. You are sputum-filled pieces of distended rectum incompetents of the highest order. British Telecom - wankers though they are - shine like brilliant beacons of success, in the filthy puss-filled mire of your seemingly limitless inadequacy. Suffice to say that I have now given up on my futile and foolhardy quest to receive any kind of service from you. I suggest that you cease any potential future attempts to extort payment from me for the services which you have so pointedly and catastrophically failed to deliver - any such activity will be greeted initially with hilarity and disbelief quickly be replaced by derision, and even perhaps bemused rage.

I enclose two small deposits, selected with great care from my cats litter tray, as an expression of my utter and complete contempt for both you and your pointless company. I sincerely hope that they have not become desiccated during transit - they were satisfyingly moist at the time of posting, and I would feel considerable disappointment if you did not experience both their rich aroma and delicate texture. Consider them the very embodiment of my feelings towards NTL, and its worthless employees.

Adam 'Mat Solo' Chan

Despite winning the coveted MVP of the national touch league recently, Mat Solo is now focusing on his lastest obstacle, the study of Soil. With an amibition to graduate with first class honours in Environmental Engineering, Mat solo is camping at the training ground - the Turf city; well known for infectious soil, and mugging for his dear life. Of course, occassionally engage into some touching with whichever girls available there.

Rumour has it that he might wanna form a breakaway team from the Boon Lay warriors, the Boon LAY Touchies. This is due to his fading interest in contact sports, and his growing passion for his LAY.. i mean the touch comunity. However, we do not want to distract him too much about this rumour as yet. He is a great servant to Boon Lay Warriors United ever since 2005, we wish his all the best in whatever decisions he make.

Malcolm 'Hairy Mal' Wong
Hairy Mal has gone through numerous physical appearances in growing his facial hair, losing them, and growing them again. He's now in full force with his 'Hairy Mal' image and looks to break the NTU record for 'least amount of skin seen on a face'. He has since captured several endorsements and will be eagerly anticipated in upcoming 'Yunnan Facial Hair Treatment' advertisements.

His recent efforts in exam preparations have been astounding, with rumours of him completing past year papers dated back to 1923. This amazing feat has reaped great rewards as he brushed off our correspondents with a confident smirk after his most recent paper. "Too easy," chuckled Mal.

Ash 'run faster than *blah blah blah'

Ash is probably currently enjoying his post-exam celebrations after finishing with one and ONLY one paper, beating the likes of Stormy and other Milton Friedman wannabes. But, he'd have to celebrate alone for now - since the rest are still diligently mugging for their papers still.

He is currently 'zhenging' his 'Vanilla Coke' vespar into a road rage warrior, in preparation for the annual 'Harley vs Vespar' road race in Kualar Lumpur. Rumour has it that he would be competing head to head with 'Ex-Muscle Man aka KKJ' Weiqiang in this grueling 63-hour race.

Darren 'I'm on Drugs' Hoe

More affectionately known as Beng Chao by his fellow teammates, Druggy has been contracted with an ultimate deadly virus. This is way out of the Dota-ti-litis' league which have plagued the majority of the Boon Lay Warriors Rugby players. This deadly virus is... FM-ti-litis. The victim will experience a 'lost track of time' syndrome. While a normal Dota-ti-litis patient will experience only 3~4 hours of struggle with the disease, FM-ti-litis is far more deadly. Druggy went into twilight zone for an amazing 8 hours. During this period of time, he is oblivious to whats happening around him. Druggy has 1 last paper to be completed. We wish him all the best that he will emerge victorious against this virus.

Praga 'Slim 10 spokesman'

Praga********, or more affectionately known to us as Praga, is a quiet and composed character and a man of few words. Most would remember him as the helpful 'chef' during our BBQ at JINGHAO's mansion; as well as the no-nonsense player on the field. Praga used to be a MASSIVE prop during his SAJC days. However, after using Slim 10, he is now slimmer 10 times compared to before. Praga is currently camping in his chemistry lab doing research on developing a new product- Slim 11, and preparing for his exams at the same time. We hope this brainy forward can make a break thru' in his research. I'm sure players like Hairy Mal and Stormy Normy will volunteer to try out the product.

Exams in the most northern tip of the Singapore border have already begun, even before the Teriyaki Boys can finish singing 'fast and furious'. It's a tough time juggling between lost causes of frantic last minute revisions and still deliver the goods in satisfying the limitless demands of our ardent fans.

We have since been renowned to surpass 'a certain local national rugby website' in the aspects of reliability and professional appraoch in updates. We live just to deliver our weekly fix of humourous propaganda, on what is fast becoming the most liberating experience in Singapore's rugby history, ever since Carlos Spencer and Richie McCaw were spotted at Zouk groping the asses of SPGs. So what the heck, here goes our next lucky 5.

Yongyao by day, Jed by night
Attaining legendary status in the local school boy rugby scene has never been easy on Yongyao. Bursting onto the scene as a gawky Sec 1 ACS kid and slowly blossoming into a wartorn fighting machine wrapped up in cotton wool, Yongyao has never been able to handle the tremendous stress of being under constant spotlight and has developed an alter ego that only exists at night, Jed.

It has also been rumoured that he may be developing a third personality in the near future in 'Me, Myself and Jed'. In the day, Yongyao is a hardworking student, often spotted at Lee Wee Nam library trying out tutorial questions in preparations for his exams. He is very focused in his work and is never one to succumb to temptations of girl-watching and computer gaming. At night is where the transformation takes place as Jed takes over and banishes Yongyao into the abyss.

A recent indulgence in the blogosphere, Jed is a pen-wielding medieval warrior trying to weave words of magic to captivate the attention of his audience; and look to upstake our local celeb-blogger XX and strut his studs during next month's Louis Vuitton 'invited members only' party. Being one of the new upstarts in the rugby community blogging scene, Jed is looking to usurp the throne that is currently held by www.nturugbynews.blogspot.com. However, unless his blog is able to generate 10,000 hits within 3 months, or engage services from the Real Refresher, the Editors are not really bothered.

Ah Kow
Ah Kow is not really a dog, and is definitely not the kind of coffee shop beer drinker your parents have always warned you about. Ah Kow is the big friendly giant that zips around in his sports car with a hanging dented bumper. It is a cheaper alternative to lowering the car suspension.

Despite being a full time student, Ah Kow is a passionate foodie and also an inventor. During the last exams, he is the pioneer of the never before seen "Triple Decker Fillet O fish with extra tartar sauce and cheese". It is a pity this Oil Mogul's nephew is not born in Arabia, if not it would be nice to see Ah Kow as a sheikh carrying moon-swords and riding a camel.

Ah Kow is currently studying for his GE module "101 ways to befriend your stomach" and is seeking to follow up on his previous award winning burger by inventing something out of this world. However, he declined to reveal any inroads to his latest experiment, preferring to leave it to the reader's imagination.

Commando Ken and Flanker "Fake Centre" Wenjie
NTU Rugby's pair of siamese twins have never been seen seperated..ever before. The marvels of modern technology has not tempted the pair to surgically seperate themselves from each other. Even as we type, these two stalwarts are planning to visit the SAF E-mart to replenish their depleting stock of combat ration. It has always been their staple diet, especially during times of stress like the exams.

It is rumoured that Commando Ken has the soft spot for Glutinous Rice with Chicken, while Wenjie just has a soft spot for Ken (Barbie doll's Ken).

Weiqiang "Ex Muscle Man" aka Ku Ku Jiao
This is the dude who at the tender age of 20 attained the title of Grandmaster in the dodgy bodybuilding world of steroite-abusing and was fondly known by everyone to be the "Body Master". Fed up with counting calorie intakes and raw eggs, KKJ decided to forgo his Manhunt ambitions and picked up rugby for fun. It was then that the KKJ name stuck...and never came off.

Currently a trainee PE teacher at NIE, KKJ has the luxury of 0 exams compared to his compatriots at NTU. However, he is no longer indulging in rugby as it has taken a toll on both his knees which required extensive reconstruction surgery.

Rumour has it that his legs are fine, but he is still traumatised being lifted in the scrum by a Norwegian female prop half his size up in KL Royal Selangor RFC. While everyone else is studying, KKJ has since invested in a brand new bike and considers cycling his new found love, a sport where you can't find any scarier than Norwegian girls.

Daniel 'Bro Love' Huang
Star Daniel has successfully recovered from his life threatening 4 stitches on his head and is now faithfully mugging his books in preparation for the upcoming exams. It seems like Dota is not the only addiction this ex-RJC dude is addicted to. Weeks (some sources say months) leading to the exam, Daniel Huang can be spotted eating Indomee Mee Goreng in his room every single night and day. Star Daniel has single handedly boosted the Indonesian economy by his buying power and is said to have pulled Indonesia out of recession and heading towards a steady growth in future. Currently, he is looking forward to providing half of the US$60m required by Indonesian government to combat the haze problem by acquiring more boxes of Indomee. At press time, the Indomee staff were unable to be present as they were all at a showroom test driving the latest Lamborghini. However, their spokesman revealed that Indomee has plans to be listed on the Singapore stock exchange.
' We have lost our single biggest customer to Indomee and it will be a struggle to hit forecasted sales figures. This may be the first time in history the financial statements of Macdonald's is in the red." Ronald Macdonald predicted the conglomerate's bleak outlook when interviewed.

Tze ' The Cat walker'
Having had a fallout with elite modelling agency Elite Models Inc due to a lack of opportunities in shooting a controversial portfolio and coffee table book with David Gan, Catwalker Tze has decided to put the glitz and glamour of the fashion world behind him and come clean to his true calling, studying and rugby. However, Catwalker is displaying signs of withdrawal symptoms from the industry that he sorely misses. His neighbours in hall have yet to register a sighting of him in weeks and he is rumoured to only saunter back for a few hours of sleep only when everyone has concussed, and leaves before even the SBS bus starts service. To date, the editors are still waiting for confirmation from the Students Admin Office on whether Tze is still a matriculated student, or has he already done a "Jakob Chong Junhao" and disappeared...forever..

Peter 'Fake Angmoh' Walker
Boasting to be the true blue and only 'walker' in the team, Peter is desperate to shed his tag as an ang moh wannabe.

"I have a rich heritage and I am proud of it hor. I don't know why people have to doubt my authenticity as an ang moh lar. I am really disappointed by their behaviour leh , and I am hoping to prove once and for all that I am indeed the real deal hor."

Despite the upcoming exams, Peter has been making trips to the Ireland embassy in Singapore to solicitate more information about his birth heritage. He is also set to make a trip back to Dublin this week to get an authentic picture of his ang moh grandparents cradling him in their arms.

"Its true I am desperate to set things right. I will do whatever it takes to prove myself....exam or not! Bryanboy Yik has set his sights on 7 fruitful years in NTU, I am sure I can manage the same."

Andy 'No show" Prakarsa
Recent terror reports on Al Qaeda's planned holiday attacks on European targets have inevitably unsettled Prakarsa, who survived the double Bali bomb blasts only because he was out on the streets soliciting a roadside hooker(prostitute, or could have been any random lineout thrower). Prakarsa is said to have ignored all plans to study for the upcoming examinations and have flown back to Bali to view and hopefully secure exclusive rights to the most impregnable bomb shelter ever built in Bali.
"I am born and bred here. But I don't wanna die here. " said Prakarsa over the static noise of the unstable Skype connection.
" I hope my teammates in Singapore will understand my plight and forgive me for constantly skipping training."

Arjun 'Show it' Pandey
The controversial captain of the Boon Lay warriors have always been a real fighter both on and off the field. His personal collection of Yellow cards and sin bins now sits proudly in the cabinet of his humble abode in Boon Lay, while he mugs on his books faithfully.
During his free time, 'Show it' Pandey can be seen hiding behind the pillars of his void deck taking a puff on all kinds of sticks from all kinds of people. In a further bid to 'relieve' himself from exam stress, he has taken to visiting Zouk, Devils Bar and MOS faithfully, sometimes alone. Reliable sources revealed that Arjun had been spotted with Joyce, the infamous transvetite romantically linked to Pandey in the 05/06 season (ask the seniors). Having been forced to split up with her to focus on the IVP season, Arjun is making a strong comeback in winning his/her (depending on mood) heart and is leaving no stones unturned in his relentless pursuit. Our roving reporter is unable to confirm such allegations and 'Show it' cannot be contacted at press time.
We hope that when the time is ripe, Arjun can stand up and clear the air of mystery, and obtain a bottle of KY jelly free courtesy of nturugbynews.blogspot.com, where we report the truth and nothing but the truth.

Dotalitis lastest updates

In the midst of intensive mugging in preparation for the joyous season of exams in November, Rugbynet is proud to bring you the greatest news of all times - Bryanboy Yik has been cured of Dotatilitis!!
The climate chills the surrounding as the forsaken west of Singapore, NTU enters the monsoon as well as the exams seasons where people are busy printing notes from lecture 1, buying textbooks and doing tutorials 1-3. Doctors of Nanyang brought good and bad news.

Bad news first.
The Spread of Dotatilitis is beyond control. More and more NTU ruggers are infected with this strange disease. Latest victims includes Emery 'Sub10' Ong and Awesome Kiat. Sub 10 Ong was caught hacking into everyone and anyone's computer(often behind closed doors), just to get a 1 vs 1(easy) AI DOTA game. Awesome admitted that he carries the DOTA MapPack in his thumbdrive aka 'Chris' (perhaps naming his thumbdrive after Dinosaur Cheng?) along with him everywhere he goes.

The only resident who has yet to be infected is Darren "I'm on drugs" Hoe. When asked about his self protection against the virus, he claims that his drugs (more commonly known as ICE, Estasy etc) is blocking the virus from entering his body.

Present patient - Daniel "Brother Love" Huang has reached the terminal stage of the disease. He was unable to speak to the press at this moment but is often heard shouting "DOTA leh!" or seen playing alone at times when any normal person would be sleeping.

Now for the MERRY GOOD NEWS!
Doctors have officially confirmed that Bryanboy Yik has been cured. The DOTA Annoymous Help Group sessions as well as Battlefield 2 therapy has improved his condition by leaps and bounds.

Yik, once suspected for being the source of this contagious disease, gave doctors hope by showing early signs of a complete recovery. Yik has reduced his daily games count to a average 3/day as compared to his 18/day record.

He shocked his mates by doing the unthinkable this morning - did his own laundry. Even though he threw his best friend(bro), Patrick the Starfish, into the washing machine as well as leaving his clothes out to "dry" under the rain, the doctors are still confident.

In addition to that, he finally realised the original purpose of him being in NTU which is to study and study he did for the past couple of days!
When interviewed, he would only smile and say "Lac ah.. not gian leh! i only play when i'm invited by special people, if not why bother? hee"

Only signs which are bothering the doctors are that after recovering from the disease, Yik might have caught a talking virus commonly known as "Chicken Backside(CB) Mouth". He was caught by our reporters on a couple of occasions taunting everyone around him especially Druggy Hoe. The latest comment was about Druggy's boxers not being tight enough to satisfy Yik's fantasy.

But all in all, its a joy to behold. Rugbynet would like to extend our congratulations to Bryanboy Yik for making such a speedy recovery!

With the mood in planet NTU furiously turning into one of fervent mugging egged on by endless cups of coffee, the editors have decided to answer the call of all die hard fans and release an exclusive post about 5 of the fan's favourite personnel and what they are up to during this make or break period for some, while for others its already broken..

Bryanboy Yik
Yik was last heard being checked out of the Dota's Annonymous help group where he was cured of the infamous disease rampant in the Boon Lay warrior's team recently, Dotatilitis. He is said to have picked up a new game called Battlefield to sustain his cravings for rapid mouse clickings. During a particular game in the NTU Hall 1 Lan shop, he left his room door unguarded and unfortunately had his handphone and wallet stolen. He was fortunate to have all his notes intact, because they were all blank.

Jason 'Rainman' Law
Rainman continues to be oblivious about the impending exams, preferring to spend his time aimlessly on Dota as well as dabbling into the dark arts. In his most recent attempt to make Arjun 'Show it' Pandey's clothes disappear into thin air using radiation, the trick backfired and the only thing disappearing into thin air was his mop of hair. Rainman is now looking pathetically like his room mate, Darren 'I'm on drugs' Hoe and both of them are coincidentally members of the Yunnan Hair Care Professional edition, guaranteed for fast results.

Darren 'I'm on drugs' Hoe
Having ambitions both on and off the field has spurred NTU's most flamboyant flanker to take on a demanding academic post in school, on top of his sporting commitments. However, his fellow students seem more amused by his sparkling bald head and are now faithfully vandalizing every single photo available on the school notice boards. Druggy Hoe has now spent the last few days at Boon Lay Konica to retake all his photos to publish them on the notice boards again.

Chia Khim Hock The Clown
Clown Chia is commonly known as Eric, although he would prefer people to call him Khim Hock. Incidentally, Khim Hock is a real cousin of Fiona Xie, the pretty Mediacorp Actress. In between studying, Khim Hock can be seen at Mediacorp events holding up posters and flowers for his famous cousin. The editors have also discovered many of the actress's personal lingerie collection in his wardrobe in hall and Khim Hock is also rumoured to have spent all this time superimposing his face onto all the partners of Fiona Xie's kissing scenes on tv.

Emery 'Sub 10' Ong
Sub 10 was forced to put his awesome rugby season on hold for the upcoming exams. These days, he has been spotted with a pretty lady with braces every day. However, he was oblivious to her beauty and preferred to spend his time checking out Youtube videos of guys and their funny moments. The editors are indeed shocked, but respect his choice of sexual orientation. He is after all a pageant contestant in the much acclaimed NTU Sports Club.

Botak Jones – A rising star

Tucked away in a forsaken corner of Singapore, NTU is often touted as one of the least desired universities behind big players like NUS and cart-wheeling SMU, all because of their less than desirable location. Where else in Singapore can you mistake yourself to be in some random and misty Johor jungle, with the haze hitting you much worse than in Clementi.

As always in life, the Almighty intervenes and cast upon the suffering ones a stroke of miracle by creating a Botak Jones right in the concrete jungle of Tuas (this piece of magic is of much greater scale than Magician Law’s, whose limited repertoire of tricks are compiled in a 3 disc DVD called Breaking the Magician's Code).

For the uninitiated, Botak Jones offers authentic American food at student-friendly prices. Any given weekday, members of the Boonlay Warriors Rugby team can be seen at the Tuas outlet gorging themselves on the multiple pattied cheese burgers. In fact, a deal has been struck with Botak Jones to allow the smaller members of the team a specially catered menu which guaran-damn-tees immediate weitght gain.

“Where I come from, it is unusual to see guys so small walking around the streets. It is my dream and vision to make Singapore the next US” said the legendary founder of Botak Jones, B.J Jones. Our reporters could not confirm if B.J Jones was indeed botak, as his mop of hair looked suspiciously like a wig.

“It is my dream come true to be part of the Boonlay Warriors Rugby team. Since young, I have heard of them and their deal with Botak Jones. To finally have a chance to be big and stand up for myself when I get bullied is a god send. You guys have no idea how traumatic it is when I get felt up by muscular gays in gym and there is nothing I can do about it.” recounted Gay-briel “The Stickman” Loi.

“To be honest, there was a huge part of me that wanted to fail my last module in NTU so I can be part of the team still. I practically grew up with the Botak Jones menu and to tell me to get on with life and put that part of my life behind me is certainly the most difficult dilemma I have encountered so far” NTU alumnus Cliff ‘When’s Dinner' Yap told the reporters sadly.

When contacted, coach Lincoln Tan said “I am from an earlier era and frankly; I still prefer my fried pig trotters over fries and burgers anyday. However, I understand the boy’s needs and I encourage all of them to try it.”

“I am joining the team next year but I have already begun my training programme to win the only title in Singapore that has eluded me so far. In fact, I have much to learn still as I recently died after eating the Double Beef Burger set. I may be due to the sauce they used for the steak I ate just before the burger. You know, I am not really a fan of steak, I prefer the sausages sold by the cute little boy Mark Koh in NUS.” Our reporters were fortunate enough to secure Rebel Rong for an interview while doing an onsite reporting live from the Clementi outlet.

When contacted whether the NTU female team had similar plans with Botak Jones, the captain 1.475m Lay-dee replied “Rugby and touch rugby are two totally different sports, besides the many similar rules, the only similarity they share are the oval ball. While the guys tend to rely solely on size and muscle their way through their opponents, we ladies play with much more flair and guile, with much focus on teamwork and tactics. In fact, with the right tactics, it lets us get away with a win even though we might have an inability to pass the ball properly. I am confident that if the guys continue chomping on their burgers while we girls look pretty and train hard on our tactics, we will be able to match the guys in our own sport in a decade or so.”

“I am World-cup bound and I need to stay focused on my goals. Botak Jones does not feature anywhere in my plans now. Although this is a lesser competition compared to the Miss Universe, I am willing to put in any amount of effort that will ensure success. I am also not ruling out a height enhancement surgery by Dr McNamara and Troy in Florida to match the 6ft4” towering girls from other continents. Special made platform boots is another alternative, we’ll see.”

E-Rugby - A Touchy Affair

On Wednesday 25th OCT '06, NTU conducted their last training session at the NTU Rugby complex. As usual, the NTU Touch team was sharing the complex with the boys. As it was a last training session before they end the pre-season fitness training programme, the boys decided to have some fun instead. Many games was played on that day, sports like soccer, touch and sprints (chasing the soccer ball).

As requested by our very own touch girls, they wanted a sparring match against the boys. NTU Ruggers took the request seriously and form a strong 6-men touch team. Players like Lao Ying, Stormy Normy, Potato Thiam, Yik 'Bryanboy' were being lead by National Touch League MVP Adam 'Mat solo' Chan.

The friendly match was a tightly contested affair as both sides were adamant about winning. The guys were dominating in attacks and girls resilient in defense. The girls, led by 1.47m Lay was covering every inch of the playing pitch, breaking down the guy's flashy attacks. Its a wonder how far short legs can bring you. Sharee 'Fake Indian' was aggressive in defense and was heard swearing at the guys at every opportunity. Ms Chan 'Elite' Wenhui was directing the plays effectively and almost created a try out of nothing in the 7 min of the match, only to be denied after video replays.

Lao Ying was making aggressive runs at the girls, forgetting that it was touch instead of contact. His style of running was made popular in the 1980s Tv series Legend of the Condor Heroes and it is an honour to witness it again. Yik was constantly falling down trying to catch Thiam's 'Super 12' passes. Adam showed us why he was named MVP by creating countless chances, however, the guys are unable to finish off the moves. Stormy Norm was...erm... ok... we needed 6... and he was the nearest available.

It seemed that the points were gonna be split both ways as the minutes on the clock ticked away. 1.47m Lay tried orchestrating a move, indicating to her girls that it was the last attacking phase and it was to be the new move she picked up on her training stint in Siberia. By then, the visibility has already gone down to zero, a wild pass by one of the girls was coolly intercepted by Potato Thiam to score the only try of the game. He was later stretchered off the pitch because he had to overstretch himself to reach the high pass and subsequently sprained his back. He was denied medical attention because NTU Rugby is not an official team recognised by SRC and thus were offlimits to the medical help available.

"To be fair, i thot the girls did really well... we were lucky not to lose. Things would have been different if it were not the last day of fasting." said Mr. MVP Mat Solo Chan who was rushing off to the Nasi Ayam stall.

"HUH? End liaoz ar?" said a visibly tired and panting Stormy who never really got into any action.

After the friendly match, Potato Thiam received a call from one of the girls saying that World Cup bound 1.47m Lay's handphone is missing. And she wanted him to check with the boys. (only the ruggers and touch girls were at the complex, obviously the ruggers are the prime suspects)

Its no surprise that the ruggers are the prime suspects becos amongst them, there are indication that the handphone might be pinched by one of the boys.

Rugby-net: A Celebratory Post

In what can be considered a barren year compared to our illustrious history (To have NEVER won a bronze in IVP competition) , the 2nd half of 2006 finally bore something for us Boon Lay warriors (reason for new name to be revealed in upcoming post) to cheer about.

Amidst all the firewalking, rendang eating and puasa season, Adam 'Mat Solo' Chan of 6 Pack Touch team was crowned the MVP of the recently concluded Touch Singapore League. Apparently his Div 2 season for Bedok Kings was so horrific that he swore off contact rugby for awhile and got in touch with his feminine side playing touch alongside girls on hazy saturday afternoons. Mat Solo remains the only NTU player besides Potato and Undroppable Qing in winning honours this season. Looks like there is some truth to the saying "Its good to be a King". He is in no way linked to the famous Adam Road Satay Stall.

"I was born with Chinese blood so i figured from young that soccer was never gonna be my thing. I am glad that I have excelled in some way and I hope my achievements on the field will be recognised by Mendaki and I will have a shot at the Young Malay Awards held later in the year at Geylang Serai." quipped a bemused Mat Solo.

Our NTU touch counterparts also had good news to share as 2 of those pretty lasses made the World Cup Bound Singapore touch team after months of intensive training at the concentration camp in Northern Siberia. Miss Elite Chan and Miss 1.47m Lay-dee, together with their Coach Ann 'The big bully" roughed it out with all the Singapore's finest and emerged as the top contenders to don Singapore colours for this upcoming tournament.

"I am very happy that 2 of my girls made it to the squad with me. Having already proved myself as a player, what I really needed was credentials in the coaching arena and I guess the selection results speaks for itself." The Bully Ann was obviously thrilled by this piece of good news.

"It comes as no surprise to me, since I am the captain of the NTU Touch Team. Making the squad was never in doubt. My height has never been a problem as we are not talking about basketball here. I am more worried whether my team mates are able to match my skills, wit and fitness. These things are beyond my control and I guess we will have to wait and see" 1.47m Lay-dee stayed cool behind her pair of shades and folded arms as she responded to the media's enquiries.

Miss Elite Chan is definitely thrilled to be given this chance to shine for Singapore. " You know months ago, when I had an accident on Aminurashid ' runs faster than you can say his name' Ash's motorbike, I thought my entire career was over. But then I only had to look back in time and see how Monica Seles recovered from her stabbing incident to continue dominating the tennis circuit. Monica is a close friend and she was the one who got me started on the long but rewarding road to recovery. It is all thanks to her that I am standing here today draped in the Singapore flag addressing everyone."

The Bully Ann also added " We thought we lost her few months back. Now she is back even stronger and fitter. The whole team feels inspired."

"To prep ourselves for this tournament, we will have to spar regularly with quality opponents. The NTU rugby boys are a good benchmark as they are all worldclass touch players, boasting even an MVP amongst their ranks. Its a pity that NTU has stopped recognising their talents."

NTU Rugby remains silent over merger reports

NTU Rugby has refused to deny reports of an imminent merger of the club with NTU Sports Club.

A spokesman for the NTU Rugby would not comment on reports that NTU Sports Club was prepared to offer NTU Rugby a chance of a merger and that idea was put forth to members of the rugby club.

According to reports, several players of the rugby club were at Botok Jones discussing the prospect of joining up with the Sports Club and later in the evening, a special meeting was setup between the rugby club and Sports club representative.

NTU Sports Club is a high profile club in NTU and was officially launched in 1991, with the aim of promoting all kinds of sports activities in NTU. Sports Club is under the umbrella of the Students' Union as a non-academic constituent club, together with other academic clubs belonging to other schools (eg. Accountancy and Business Club, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Club) and 2 other non-academic constituent clubs (Welfare Services Club and Cultural Activities Club).

"Sports Club is feverish about promoting all sorts of sporty activities."

A spokeswoman for the Sports Club confirmed that there has been contact from the rugby club and talks have been going on.

However a spokesman for the rugby club insisted he had no knowledge of whether Sports Club was interested to take in the Rugby Club and could only say that all these rumours are baseless and should be ignored.

He later added that Sports Club "welcome anyone who has the objective of promoting their sports and healthy lifestyle" to be under them.

The final whistle for the Cup finals at Yio Chu Kang Stadium last saturday marked the end of this year's SRU National Rugby Championships. It also represents that the transfer window is officially open at 1900hrs (GMT +0800). While players return to their respective schools to prepare for their upcoming school campaigns, several high profilers have already been linked with moves to other clubs.

Stormy Normy

NTU's number 1 prop, Stormy Normy has been strongly linked to league and cup winners Bedok Kings throughout the season. Back in early July, he showed up at Bedok's training ground for a 2-weeks trial stint and was hugely impressive. Stormy then surprised both pundits and his fans by signing a 1 season contract extension with SRC. With the end of the season, speculations arose, strongly linking Stormy to Bedok Kings again. He was seen sitting with Bedok supporters during the cup final and also hanging out with Bedok players at their post match function. An eye witness claimed that he saw Stormy boarding the Bedok's Team Bus.
His agent commented - " Norman is busy preparing for his exams and school training. He will decide his future within the next few weeks"

Emery "Sub 10" Ong

The Speedster from Nanyang Avenue is also linked to Bedok Kings after being spotted with Stormy at a Bedok Kings post match function. Although the move the highly unlikely as Emery had just signed a 3-year contract with SRC, his fellow NTU teammates at Bedok expressed their delight at the possibility of him signing for Bedok.
"His speed is very deadly and it would be great playing with him.He did well this season! The number of tries he scored for SRC this season may be the club's record highest number of tries scored by a rookie"
His transfer may be hindered by recent news of the speedster getting infected with "Dota-litis". Doctors say that he is showing early signs of the disease but nothing is certain as of now.

Starlets Kevin "Salsa King" Ang & Gabriel "Gay Stickman" Loi

After a successful trial session with Champions - Bedok Kings. Both players has been offered a 3-yr contract starting next season. When contacted, Salsa king was busy trying to fight the 'Dota-litis' disease by distracting himself with a new programme known as "Football Manager 2007". But there are rumours that Salsa King is currently considering a change of position from his regular "In center" to a Flanker.
As for Gay Stickman, he could only reply with "huh err err i want to get bigger la.."

Transfer speculations for Mark "Mr Biceps" Lee continues as latest rumours say that Mr Biceps is signing a contract with NTU in January 2007 after accepting the school's offer for a Masters program in communications. The thought of him teamming up with his national/club teammate Rebel Rong in NTU colors would simply scare all oppositions.

Bedok Kings Claim Singapore Cup in Pulsating Final

Bedok Kings capped a tremendous season last night, claiming home the Singapore Cup with a three tries to two, 19-15 win over the Brewerkz Bucks at Yio Chu Kang stadium. The Kings’ defensive screen proved the winner as they completed the coveted league and cup Double, thwarting an impressive but late offensive effort by the Bucks to condemn them to their second successive cup failure against the Kings.

It was an exciting contest between two evenly matched teams and the final margin really suggested a closer encounter than was actually the case.

In keeping with the tension befitting of a cup final, both teams made a jittery start - right from the kick-off when Bucks failed to kick the ball past 10m. Despite early edgy exchanges, Bucks was quick to settle into composure and dominated the forward play in the early minutes, with Ben Wheeler capitalising on sluggish scrum defence to break through, but the Bedok backline was on song to contain the Bucks skipper.

Bucks controlled the majority of the match in the first half as they relentlessly piled up the pressure during the first quarter of the game. Bedok Kings will have winger Andrew ‘Flash’ Kagoro and fullback Dallas Pitches to thank as they kept Bucks scoreless, defending brilliantly and foiling any breaking runs by the Bucks backline.

Flyhalf John Forrester was unlucky not to give Bedok the lead as his 10th minute penalty struck the left-hand post.

An 18th minute penalty were the only points mustered by the Bucks after a long spell of pressure and territorial dominance.

The opening try of the game came shortly through neat phases of play and some quick recycling of the ball by the Bucks forwards. Aaron ‘Juggernaut’ Browne received the ball on the blind side and a strong run took him across the line at the left-hand corner to give Bucks a handy lead of 8-0.

The lead soon evaporated as the Kings regained their composure and in-form winger Flash took centre stage. A breakout in the 27th minute of play from the Bedok forwards saw neat exchanges of passes between brothers Rongy and Rebel Rong. After a quick ball out to the backline, NTU’s Daniel ‘Potato’ Thiam committed the last defenders and breached the Bucks defence before putting Flash through for the Kings’ first try of the game.

A successful conversion by Forrester narrowed the score to 8-7.

Flash would then increase the lead for Bedok in the 34th minute, scoring an inspiring breakout try after a quick, last gasp pass from Thiam, as he outpaced the static covering defence and claimed his second try of the game.

A second successful conversion by Forrester brought the score to 8-14, going into the interval.

The second half had a controversial moment when a collapsed Bucks driving maul from a 5m-lineout was deemed to be due to an intentional player infringement; with Bucks awarded a penalty try just halfway through the second half, edging into the lead at 15-14 after a successful conversion.

Stand-out fullback Dallas Pitches made an incisive run in the 67th minute on the short side as he committed two defenders before sending winger Eric Ng sprinting over for a well-earned try, and established a crucial lead of four points.

Forrester was unlucky with the conversion attempt as he struck the post once more, leaving the score standing at 15-19 to the Kings.

The Bucks had the better of the final ten minutes but it was a story of ‘too little and too late’. Despite pressing hard in the dying minutes and way deep into injury time, Bucks were unable to break through a resolute Bedok defence that stood brave in the face of adversity.

The final whistle eventually arrived and by then the crowd of supporters were already clanging with delight and a pulsating, ear-splitting cacophony to greet Bedok Kings’ second successive cup triumph.

Club captain Gus McKay was in a jubilant euphoria at the sound of the fulltime whistle.

“We’ve worked hard all season and today we played our guts out for each other. And with a crowd like this, how can we not be inspired,” said Gus as he dedicated the victory to the ever-faithful club supporters.

When asked about the length of the injury time played, Bedok boss Tony King unleashed the fury well-known to all, “The referee is a f**king c**t. It’s supposed to be a game of two HALVES, for f**k sake.”

On his two assists of the game, Thiam revealed, “I knew I had to get the ball out wide. And when you have Flash on the outside, a try-scoring opportunity is always there for the taking.”

When asked on his contribution to the build-up for Bedok’s first try, Rebel Rong remains humble, honest and down-to-earth in his own way, “I am damn good. Do you know what my jersey number stands for? I am number one. I am the best.”

Head coach Danny ‘Stone Cold’ Tauroa was unruffled during Bedok’s pulsating catch-up game in the second half and remained cool after the victory.

“We talked about taking the game to them and this was a real pressure game today. To play the way we did showed great confidence and we played really well when we had the ball. When they had the ball, we kept a really good defensive shape and it was an impressive team effort altogether,” said Tauora.
